As someone who has gatekept people in the past, I think there's a combination of people taking their own analysis too seriously and people just very much taking fandom too seriously (particularly I think the subreddit is a weird case just because the people there seem to be primarily people who haven't even liked homestuck since cascade and get upset at anyone who DOES like the comic or anything postcanon).
