Fun fact, did you know that early Lolita fashion from the 80s actually sported less poofier skirts like the one she's wearing on the right? Poofy skirts and petti's weren't really popular when the fashion was new, and didn't become a new thing for the fashion until the early 90s. Old school Lolita or Vintage lolita was more about dressing in an unconventional older way, and the petticoat and dolly style came afterwards when the push to make the style lean more cute came to be.

Recently, less poofy skirts have become really popular with Japanese Lolitas, which was seen as almost a fashion crime in the Lolita community. Many brands are making skirts that are longer and are supposed to be worn without a petti, and some really famous Lolita models are even wearing lolita without the traditional petticoat and bellshape.
