I wonder if trolls are descended from a species that did have wings? In that case, Rufioh was a mutant who'd regained that lost part of proto-troll development, and god tier forms could be drawing on the same latent genes. So much about trolls evokes hymenoptera: the group including ants, bees and wasps. They've evolved wingless in some or most of the population on multiple different occasions.

On which note: I can't quite get my head around the Queen Grubs. Are they actually trolls? Or are they a different species that is symbiotic with trolls? In the later case, how do queen grubs reproduce, and are they the same species as drones?

Which has implications for another question: about, er, pailing. We know it doesn't matter if the couple who fill the pail is MF, MM or FF - the results are still useful. Is that a)'cos no fertilisation takes place until all the pails are mixed up together by the mother grub?

b)Or are there in fact 3 possible combinations of gametes that can produce a fertilised "egg"?

c) Or.... if the mother grub is indeed a troll, do both male and female gametes merge with a third sex of gamete provided by her?

d) or is troll gender completely unrelated to sexual reproduction?
