Alterhumanity in Homestuck

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned somewhere that I've long held the belief that Cronus becomes FAR more interesting if you go the route of "started this for attention, but then it became serious/real and is trying to be cool about it (and isnt)"

and yeah jade as she is in the early 2000s is someone who saw a bunch of ppl complaining about furry lifestylers and how terrible and gross furries are in general and tries to distance herself despite the quiet yearning. "anthro artist not a furry" type I say as I designed a fursona for Jade specifically for a prompt I used in those random rp chat sites. Probably her main introduction to alterhumanity specifically would have been those like old weirdly aggressively gatekeepy therian forums that were like 90% wolfkin who thought any otherkin with a mythical/not Real animal was faking for attention. But she wouldn't have an account shed just like lurk. Very active on like 20 different virtual petsites tho, would scroll through top-100 VPS lists and join a new one every week. Only the best rise to the top (actually being an active player)

@autumnwyvern OH A8SOLUTELY ON THE CRONUS THING HOLY SHIT... I think Homestuck gets more interesting on literally every front when you consider the alterhumanity, explicit and implied, as genuine and real aspects of each character and not just jokes/faked/tacked on etc. Like I just don't see why anyone would willingly choose to ignore it when it's so fucking cool. This goes for the scourge si8lings too which is just. The 8iggest can of worms I have ever opened in my life so I'm sort of trying to avoid it. Like, I opened that can a year ago and the can opener is only 2/3 the way around the lid, it's crazy. ALSO your Jade thoughts are also soooooooo real.

re: autumnwyvern you are SO RIGHT on the money about cronus. my interpretation of him was generally that he opted to be humankin because it was accessible, easy, and made him feel like he fit in and was cool with the rest of his friends (especially with horuss and kankri, i think those were big influences)

but like, yeah he's bullshitting all of this but hes also probably not a troll. hes probably not a human either lol, maybe? but he REALLY seems like he has some unresolved feelings

putting my thoughts in on callie as the resident obsessed with cherub person: hi okay it makes a lot of sense actually that she specifically kins trolls because

1. she thinks theyre cool as hell (based callie)

2. trolls are feminist*

*ok look this one is definitely up for debate and depends i think but generally alternia seems like it characterizes the female gender as more violent, domineering, dangerous and powerful. gosh! i sure wonder what appeal calliope might see in that role, based off of her circumstances!

caliborn is also otherkin but in like an evil way. idk you know like dnd alignments???? hes evil about it. i cant say why but he is. like he literally made himself a humanoid lordenglishsona and at least sort of became that eventually guys gug gy guys *gets dragged awayscreaming*

the idea of interpreting vriska as fictionkin is really interesting to me. to be perfectly honest i'm not super well knowledged on fictionkin, so i am definitely coming into this conversation with a lot of misconceptions and assumptions. please correct me if i say stuff thats incorrect!

i found your post to be a very interesting read. i think that we definitely interpret vriska differently. i will say, i definitely relate a lot to the idea of attaching oneself very heavily to a kin identity and later drifting into a different one, but i also have yet to play pesterquest. i also found your paragraph about jake and aranea and the desire to be like mindfang, but also not commit harmful actions really fascinating. i guess i have a lot of questions cause i found your post really interesting, but i am not sure if theyd all be appropriate to ask or if you want to be answering questions? i dunno, but i appreciate that you wrote that post in the first place because it was really interesting!

im glad everyone understands the Cronus Meta. the less plot-important dancestors in general get tossed aside p easily by most people and like I do get it I understand why but they exist in a fun space of having like Just Enough info for like established relationships and personalities but also a lack of info that opens them for a wide variety of unique interpretations. (this is probably a comparison lost on many but I'd say its similar to how the in-universe band characters in the splatoon series work) and yeah that pushing and prodding at ideas and throw-away lines, that were meant as jokes full stop, are real fun to treat them with even a teaspoon more seriousness

do you ever think about akwete purrmusk and how davepeta exists. i think its nice that both jade and dave (or A dave I guess) get to live out just beautiful fantasies. (also come to think of it maybe i should have made dave in my 10k discord pic one of the kougras with wings? but i feel like a fire kougra would be what hed pick for himself. hmmm)

jade alterhuman identity is so real and true. people do the "lol furry" observation all the time but i think its a lot more interesting to consider that bec is her guardian and she rly is that "raised by a wolf" story that kids often make up and rp about. except for jade its her reality. id like to think her closeness with bec and her isolation from most other people made her feel more connected with dogs and animals in general and view herself as such. i'd like to think her alterhuman identity came way before discovering the online furry community, and that furry art was just the thing that helped introduce her to terminology that would help her express her identity :]
