Get in here you rascals

Toby did great, Cherani did great, Adam did great, Colleen did great. Dave was giving more lively wiseguy than affected stoic but it made a nice contrast to John's more subdued delivery. Rose has a bit of graveled texture to her voice that sets her apart, gives a certain dark gravitas. Jade is a goddamned barrel of sunshine and gets rendered as an emoji to protect the [SPOILERS] reveal. I'm feeling good

Feeling so good as well! I don't have much to add on the voice actor front, just wanna say that the background art is so good, they did the clouds justice! There's fun little details strewn around too, just pause on the Hussie frames (Toby Fox is there!!!) \(//0^)/~*

I like how they incorporated the 'meta' aspects such as the narrator and captchalogue system, and I think the character interactions were quite fun - I especially found John very entertaining, Toby did a really good job voicing him! I am worried that the fast pacing could be confusing for newcomers, but to be fair when I first started reading the webcomic I was also confused as hell lol.... understanding builds up as the story progresses imo, like I was so confused about the captchalogue and time shenanigans at first, but the more I read the more it all made sense, so I imagine the animation will be the same.

Very interested to see how the rest of the comic would look animated, I do hope we get to see more!

I LOVED it, it was so so so good! A bit fast-paced, but I guess it's because they had to squeeze a lot of stuff into 11 minutes. Watching it on repeat. PLEASE GO BUY MERCH. WE NEED THIS TO HAPPEN!

I quite liked it. I think some modern slang slipped into the show more than I'd prefer for having it set in 2009 (pfp rather than avatar and DM rather than PM, for example), but other than that, I don't really have many complaints. I really liked that it had WV at the computer to sort of bookend the pilot. With only 11 minutes, I thought that was a good way to hint at a larger story without being able to actually show it.

I loved it enough. All the voice actors did great job, all the voices revealed so far suit their characters imo (unlike what people were saying about Dave's voice). John straight out fighting his father was... different, I guess? I mean it fits the overall bizarre vibe of Homestuck, but makes me wonder what they are going to change with Bro Strider to make him seem abusive to Dave if fighting between family members is okay in the setting of the Pilot. Two things that concern me are: 1) Dave IS heavily OOC compared to his comic equivalent and I wonder why. Was it Hussie's decision? Is the change deliberate? Will Dave be going through a slightly different character arc than he does in the comic? Is the plot going to follow comic plot from A to Z? Because we all saw the retcon hand, so are they going to repeat the retcon? Is it even necessary if the plot does stay the same? 2) Okay, so the Pilot is like... an actual pilot to the series or a pilot-"could be upgraded to episode 1" thing? Because if it's the latter than they have to dance from what they already made and not just a promo-video for... whoever will sponsor the series.

But overall it's fun. Entertaining. I can't wait to see what waits for us in the future where Homestuck: The Animated Series actually exists.

Already hit a third of a million views! I've got a good feeling about this.

Yes, the opening with WV completely took me by surprise, but it makes sense as a way of getting the cosmic scope of the story onscreen as quickly as possible.

John and Rose are closest to their comic originals. I'm a massive Rose fan and I thought her voice-acting was superb. Jade seems a lot more manic, and Dave less cool and guarded, but it did feel like they have the same basic personailties. They just express themselves a bit differently.

I did like how they handled sylladexes. There's the explaining bit with John complaining about the narrator, but not so loudly you can't follow it. Then we promptly get quick demos of it in action, espeically the pie and the cake forcing items out of John's sylladex in the Dadstrife. Which was also brilliant! A mixture of classic exaggerated cartoon shenanigans and anime bossfight, but the shot at the end with Dad swoooshing at the fire alarm suggests it may have been just a minor scrap that stayed inside the kitchen.

It's good but I'm worried it won't work as an entry point for new fans. Hoping that if this gets picked up they just make a different first episode that's more accessible to general audiences.

im begging people to watch the qna video BUT OTHERWISE i enjoyed this pilot so much ... good pacing for what's a pilot (not an episode 1!!! this is a pilot!) my only real gripe is the narrator i think they should replace oney with someone else. the narration to me in the comic always read as more stoic instead of what they went for here. i could tolerate it if they decide to keep him but i'd prefer something else. no other complaints otherwise this is cool

Not that I'm rewatching to manically hyperfocus on details or anything, but Jade did Jake's "two fingerguns and a wink" thing. Nice touch.

it was a delight! i felt giddy the whole time i was watching and rewatching it when i got home and i adore everything about it. my only nitpick is that i wish that there were subtitles because their voices are just a little bit soft compared to the background music and it was kinda hard to make out what they were saying, especially rose. but other than that i cant wait to see this become an actual show!

Now comfortably over half a million views, after just 6 hours. The only time I've witnessed a YouTube video blow up like this before was the pilot to "Amazing Digital Circus", so there's that. (No doubt plenty of tedious YouTube celebrities have achieved the same, but I didn't bother witnessing them.)

I mostly liked it. It was well-acted, and did a pretty good job getting the look and feel of Act 1 into animation. There were a few things I didn't like (the music is a bit bland, and I found the pacing a bit off), but they're mostly minor stuff that can be worked out later; this is just a pilot, after all.

I'm very happy with how it turned out! If it does get greenlit for a full series, hopefully having multiple episodes per season and an expanded runtime would allow them to slow down the pacing a bit; I think that would allow them to let Dave's character be more true to the comic. To me, Dave has a very careful and methodical approach to laying down heaps of rambling bullshit, and it wouldn't be the best idea to try and capture that in a single 11-minute pilot.

To another end, I think the inclusion of the narrator was written very well, but I'm not happy with how the VA delivered their lines. I think it was an intentional choice, giving him a ridiculous 'caricature over character' voice to emphasize his place as a meta-aspect of the story, but I found the inflections obnoxious, especially in the 'note desolation plays' segment with how he said 'plundered mailbox'.

as most people are saying, THE PILOT IS PRETTY DARN GOOD.

my pure paw-sitives:

-the animation in the Strife Scene was FUCKING SICK and a VERY GOOD EXAMPLE for what will come if the series gets greenlit... (GOD. PLEASE.)

-all the animation is just sick in general though. very well done... waow... the Outro gave me CHILLS for the first SEVERAL TIMES I watched the pilot. fuckin'. awesomesauce.

-the sound effects, I enjoyed greatly!

-and all the picks for voice actors themselves. I think some voices should be altered, but the baseline people voicing the characters? very good choices... (THE BABY. IS YOU, JOHN.)

mixed bags:

-Rose was really accurate and fun!!! and also, should've been mixed louder. lol.

-I think Egbert... hmmmm. Egbert's personality is noticably different. but, is also more accurate for a thirteen year old boy, than OG Homestuck's Egbert! so I'm not exactly distraught they've changed little eggbeast's personality. REALLYYY wish he did not out-swear Dave though. that's weird. not in character.

bad shtuff:

-Dave was quiiite out of character.. BRAHHH... Rose legit uses the word irony-poisoned for him, but he's NOT EVEN PORTRAYED AS IRONY-POISONED! (also... certified Jregfluence moment. Hahaha. I love seeing words the youtuber Jreg came up with SLOWLY INFILTRATE AND PERMEATE THROUGHOUT THE MEDIA.) he should have been portrayed as more monotone. and actually, progressively throughout the pilot he did slowly get more in-character? the Title Drop bit was VERY DAVE-Y, save for tone, which I already mentioned as being too non-monotoned. dualtoned? anyways. I think that's interesting. and probably the fault of rushed writing, or something.

-PACING. DEAR GOD. first time I watched it, I thought everything was great pacing-wise except for the scene transitioned. then, I rewatched it again, and put on my pretend "i know nothing about Homestuck" cap, and dear god everything was way too rushed. I IMAGINE PEOPLE NEW TO HOMESTUCK ARE QUITE CONFUSED. (but also, ehh. I understand that's difficult to fix. Homestuck is the antithesis of a newbie-friendly piece of media. but also-also, try a little more, homestuck animated team...

-DEARLY, SINCERELY, RIP-OFF CALIBORN.

Thought it was suuuper good! Would give it a solid 8/10, my only criticisms (besides pacing which, i can't really blame anyone for since this IS a pilot) would be that dave seems a little too lively. I'd like it if they kept his voice more monotone for a more accurate "you can tell this kid's trying his hardest to act cool right now" portrayal. Don't know how i feel about modern slang like rose saying "aura" or dave calling john "bestie" but its whatever and something i def wouldn't mind if the pilot gets picked up and we get a proper (longer) episode one. I thought the animation was one of the highlights ESPECIALLY the scene at the end where they gloss through a catalog of characters and things that are yet to come.

Considering the attention the pilot received (1.2 million in a day) and some comments from the team about how well merch sales are preforming, i have high hopes that it'll get picked up & further adapted into something even greater.

one day i will see johnkat on the big screen. one day.

not if i have anything to say about it
