the secret is to put bits of yourself into every character you make and only make your self insert Literally You, hussie style
I mean on the minus side you get no self inserts but on the plus side: Factory for OCs you like.

HAHA i have a whole pair of MSPFAs like this!! all of the "self insert" characters me and my friends wrote have just become their own guys. i think thats okay, though!! parts of us still shine in them, just as parts of you shine in yours! being able to use parts of yourself as a base for a whole character, over and over again, is really cool!

My main roleplay self-insert ended up as a near-unkillable cyborg who has a laid-back attitude to life which I sadly don't share.
