Anyone here roleplay homestuck?

i <3 homestuck roleplaying SO BAD. both canons and ocs, really. ive been in far too many fansessions to count over the course of my time in the fandom. love to finish one someday.

i love roleplaying homestuck! unfortunately i havent found a ton of people for it and my memories of it are far and few between, but i have one friend that i have roleplayed our ocs with quite a bit!

@jadedavekat ive found that disboard is the best place to go to find fansessions, nowadays! it can be a mixed bag, but its better than nothing

Im hoping the current rp (technically its a ttrpg but rp is in the name so it counts!) I have with a handful of humans will make it to the end. Fingers crossed!

Back when lockdowns were at their height, I got involved in a fansession rp that I ended up more or less becoming the GM for, and it was the most fun I've ever had in my life! It took us just over half of a year to complete (since our prototyped Jack final boss took a bajillion years to finish due to needing all 14 of us to be there), but oh man. It seriously revived my love of rping and art. I've been chasing that high ever since. Here are some panels I made for it!

@miss_bec Thank you!! Isn't it such a blast?? A sburb session is like. Such an ideal rp environment. Everyone has creative freedom over their planets while everyone has an overarching plotline they can follow. It's so good

@missmonkeymode YEAH honestly since we did it over discord it wasn't too tough, the biggest thing was just wrangling everyone together to do a singular thing at a singular time. We also had some people who lived overseas in like 8hr+ time zone differences, so it was for sure a challenge there :'D But yeah, it was so much fun!!

@Cosmo honestly, text-based RP that isn't homestuck doesn't hit the same for me. fuck, it hits WORSE. ive spent like 3ish years RPing in ttrpg westmarch discord servers and yeah theyre their own kind of fun but its 90% low stakes fluff that doesnt actually go anywhere with characters that feel flat. the best (and worst but shh) characters ive ever cooked up have been for homestuck RPs. im RPing as a purpleblood mime called Jorikk right now who's "typing quirk" is that they cant use any sort of word or make any sort of sound. they gotta rely just on emojis and unicode symbols in text to make pictograms to get messages across, and in-person they gotta use gestures n shit. you cant do whacky shit like this in other mediums and settings.

oh yeah, this is a thread for rp stories, huh. i got one.

so like 7 years ago, my homestuck rp friend group did a gigantic session comprised entirely of lords and muses, one lord per aspect and one muse per aspect (though two separate sessions that were connected via paradox space bullshit, one for lords and one for muses). so thats 12 lords, 12 muses, for a total of 24 people. it was about as fucked as it sounds.

on one end you had the Lords session that speedran sburb so quickly that it took us one whole real week before it devolved into an endless sandbox of absurdist fluff and a chain of dumb stupid arguments between teenagers. people* started doing horrorterror rp on the side, i think there was an in-character wedding event, and i feel like someone made dream bubbles for some reason because that implies theres any timeline where a session of 12 lords could die. it was genuinely complete pandaemonium. im 90% sure the events of that RP were the precursor to what made me realise i was trans and i only reached that conclusion LAST MONTH. it ultimately imploded because everyone was too busy rping and getting into OOC drama to actually finish SBURB and create a new universe.

and then on the total end of the spectrum, the Muse session was SO PASSIVE that they literally got nothing done. it ultimately imploded because... well, yknow, absolutely NOTHING HAPPENED. it got so bad that the muse players who were let down that their session didn't go anywere started creating horrorterror and dream bubble characters just to try and get a taste of the RP they'd missed.

it was the worst 10/10 experience ive ever had, and a cautionary tale that sticks with me to this day: dont fuckin try this, it sucks so bad lmao

@miss_bec Right?? I love sburb rps because there's such a nice balance, and whoever decides to take the lead on plot stuff can direct how quickly things happen and what the stakes are. You can have lots of downtime between events for fluff and then ramp things up when needed. I think that's one reason why my session did so well; we planned dates for big fights and stuff and just relaxed and had fluff in the time in between. It allowed for personal character development and relationships and kept things on track!

Also 24 people with all lord and muses is NUTS. I can't imagine how utterly hectic that must have been XD

And hilarious that you mentioned the rp being the reason you figured out you were trans, because I think like every single person in our rp group came out as some flavor of trans after like 2 years LMAO. I was already out when we started, so it was fun watching everyone one by one realize and then come out.

@Cosmo im acting as a pseudo-gm for our current session (i.e. not involved in absolutely everything, but controlling a handful of important npcs and making a few macro-level decisions thatll help give the late-game more focus and structure which is historically where stuff falls apart) which this group hasnt had before, but ive gm'd enough ttrpgs for them that they have some amount of faith in me to do some good stuff for em. sadly our time player has already flaked and stopped rping, which DOES suck but itll give things more stakes since there's no do-overs - we get one shot and we cant fuck it up.

also, "every single person in our rp group came out as some flavor of trans". MANY SUCH CASES. everyone ive rp'd with either started trans or had their gender trans'd especially in the last 4ish years. i swear, the "homestuck RPer" and "transed gender" venn diagram has to be overlapping so much it just looks like one slightly blurry circle

@miss_bec That sounds awesome!! That's more or less what I did for our session, too; I started off with just a carapacian exile OC and loved playing them so much that the other players let me handle all of the other carapacian characters in the game, and Jack ended up becoming our main villain, so I pushed the plot forward mainly through him and his actions. Pretty much everyone's subplots with their own minor villains ended up playing into Jack's plot, so everything was really cohesive, and we were able to have some fun events and a final boss fight. Best of luck with your session, I hope you're able to reach the end!

AND YEAH LOL the homestuck rp to transgender pipeline is so real. At this point if anyone tells me they're getting into a homemstuck rp I'm just like ok soldier see you when you come out the other side a different gender o7

I cant attest to the "homestuck rper to transgender pipeline" because most of the people I rp with are already transgender lol. No eggs have been cracked while playing with others, but I know plenty of people that had their eggs cracked like. A month before the rp starts up. I just assumed it was just about how overtly queer the community is and not about how roleplay tends to do that to peopl.

I roleplayed wayward vagabond in a homestuck highschool au thing once and i was only able to hit karkat with a mop and dance on his unconscious body before the entire thing died out

gang shit tbh, shame it died out but at least you got some peak out of it
