I don't think they are off the table by any means, we have had a few conversations about some text-only works already and the fact that they're text only was never even a concern in those discussions.
I can vouch for "M.C. Escher that's my favourite MC". A very long, very quality fanfiction with many spinoff fictions of characters in various POVs, but the main plot of it begins as a Davekat "Trolls live on Earth" AU, but it ends up going above and beyond that in an amazing way. There's things in there like Dancestors, Alternian revolution, Sburb, and timeline shenanigans of complexity and intrigue on par with canon Homestuck. Absolutely phenomenal read imo, one of the best fanfictions I've had the pleasure to read, period.
