these are some seriously great roxys. these drawings are from way back in 2019 but i still like them a lot.

when i made these back then it was just because i hadn't ever made humanstucks before and i figured it was a good design exercise.
but after i posted them i was hit with a flood of responses and messages from black homestucks saying that they'd never seen the characters depicted like this or that xyz looked so much like them or someone they knew.

this really struck a chord with me because at the time i hadn't really seen too much of it either. as someone who's been in the fandom for about half my life now, before the "2019stuck" era seeing explicitly black interpretations of homestuck characters was always something of a special event. outside of the ubiquitous ambiguously brown jades and jakes the wider fandom had deemed acceptable homestuck art was typically lacking any concentrations of melanin.

and those "ambiguously brown" jades and jakes never did anything for me because they always lacked any real intent. in a way those characters were truly "aracial". these feelings were a part of what lead to me depicting roxy as black in pesterquest!

wow your vriska design is so cool I love her!

I think my favorite design here is the Terezi one you really gave her such cool clothes lol. The color scheme works really well even though I normally don't think teal and red go together like that T_T She looks awesome!

thank you! i love putting high contrast colors on terezi and i've always been partial to vriska in a ponytail. it's been a long time i might have to try my hand at drawing their humanstuck designs again.

No white words? Damn, here I was hoping for a zone in Homestuck I could talk about being the one nigga who really fucks with pickleball and says "golly gosh gee willickers". This city really ain't no place for me.

On a more serious note, yeah, shout out the shit you be drawing, Vintagefoods. It's deadass the first time I saw someone draw any of them (especially the Strilondes) as anything but white and blonde and seeing that there were others who saw the vision is legit part of what made Homestuck stick for me as opposed to being some shit I'd just move on from when I finished reading.

@malo i have a pixel brush set on CSP i downloaded ages ago that i use for dithered texture on my drawings, i also had a flipnote brush set but i think i lost it
