the semester is gonna start soon so i thought if might be nice if there was a thread where students can talk to each other, share study tips, commiserate, ect.

don't feel obligated to share your school or grade level if ur concerned about privacy or whatevs

i will figure out a good signature. Eventually.

About to go back for my second year and I'm kind of dreading it. I feel pretty all right academically, but I basically spent the first year not talking to anyone. Last year I signed up for several clubs which proceed to not meet once, but thankfully I think I found one which actually does for this year, so I might be at least a little better off.

As someone who skipped college, I genuinely hope all of you make a million god damn dollars off of your degree immediately after getting out of there. Yall have a way better work ethic than me. Also just remember learning > passing. You wanna absorb more than you memorize.

I just paid for my tuition and I am going to start another semester of university. I'm studying animation :]

I don't mind going to school. It gives me structure. But I am really nervous for what happens when I get out of university rip. I've never applied for jobs outside of an internship I managed to get in high school. And I am really bad at like, making myself do things. I procrastinate and procrastinate until someone tells me to do something. So saying I'm a little nervous about the future is an understatement (-u- );;;;;

i'm just about to start my first semester at an AICAD art college. i move into my dorm next week and i'm super super excited about it!!! for a while i was nervous about it because i'm a bit older than most incoming freshmen, but i took a semester of classes at a local community college earlier this year and it really put my mind at ease about it.

if anyone happens to be in a similar boat as i was, know this: people go through life at different paces, and with different hurdles. if you spend all your all your time comparing yourself to others and dwelling on missed opportunities it will lead to you becoming your own biggest roadblock. there's no wrong time to pursue something you're passionate about. it's okay to take your time, but don't stand in your own way out of fear of that first step.

@alm3v applying for jobs sucks ass, the main things to know are: if they ask you for more than one interview start doing math on how worth it it is, because the more interviews the more likely they are NOT hiring you. The other thing is, ask for more than the starting salary ALWAYS. The worst they can do is say no. Aside from that, lying on your resume within reason is fine, most places aren't calling your references and as long as you can get the shit done no one cares. The other thing is, people care about experience more than a degree. Just do your best to get a job regardless genuinely lmfao

seems like we've got a healthy mix of excitement and dread in this thread. relatable! i'm somewhere in between those too emotions myself. i'm only taking classes part-time, but i'm working part-time as well, so i'm just hoping i can manage to achieve a healthy work/life balance

re: slip

very true! i have had a lot of shame regarding my unorthodox schooling, i dropped out of high school, was on track to get my associates in 2020 but took a break for a couple years because of the pandemic, and now i am about to get start bachelors in my late twenties.

i felt a lot of ways about it for awhile, i would tell people i was going back to school for my bachelor's sort of bashfully, but the universal reaction i've been getting when sharing this is glee. everyone is happy for me. sometimes it wavers that i tell them i'm going for art lol. but the time is going to pass anyway!!!

i do want to say this for anyone considering going to school for art fresh out of high school: if you can, WAIT!!!!

while it is true that art is something that you do not technically need a degree in, you are not really going for the degree! you are going for the facilities, the opportunity to make art in spaces and with equipment you may never have access to again, the knowledge you are gaining from faculty (who are themselves working artists). it is helpful to go in with the idea that you are not "getting a degree", you are creating a body of work!!

i have a lot more thoughts, but i will keep them. basically, i am really glad my schooling shook out the way it did. every USamerican should go to community college and/or an in-state school

good luck to all of us!!!! and especially good luck to all of you who said youre starting college for the first time. for me personally it was a very strange and rough transitional period going from high school to college. so advice to all of you: dont forget to take care of yourself! make friends with your classmates. go to student events or clubs. have fun!

classes start on Monday for me so this weekend I'm gonna go hang out with friends as a last hurrah of the summer before having to return to the weekly cycle. All things considered I do like having the structure in my life, it helps me keep on track of stuff I gotta do and whatnot also it's nice to get fresh air I guess.

not that I didn't go camping a bit over the summer.

DC: hey check this out.
