Consolidating threads?

yeaahhhhh thiz iz super fair.. I'm not really sure what to do about the exizting repeat threadz but I def recommend that people about to make a new thread check to see if the topic already exiztz

Honestly, I think the "Please try to avoid duplicate threads" should be moved higher up on the rules.

gonna work on consolidating a few threads and redirecting them to the one that was posted first for their topic, i will do this in the morning.
leaving the easter egg hunts open, however, as some of them contain information that others do not..

if you feel so inclined, you can report a post for being a duplicated thread, this gets our attention on them quicker. no punishment will befall the user as it's often a simple mistake, so don't worry :)

Thread-merging is indeed a precious feature on modern forums (on AVPGalaxy for example, it's used continously to avoid clogging the place with dozens of topics about the same thing) and given the enthusiasm of the first day of the new forums, I'd say it'd be useful here too.

As first candidates for merging, I would propose:

I've also noticed two cosplay threads cropping up seperately in the creative works and homestuck categories, iirc.

again: thread merging is a planned feature for moderation in the future. lots for us to do at the moment but i understand the frustration that we have not been taking care of this manually in the meantime.

Yeah, it's perfectly understandable that you had other priorities! :) Take your time to work on the various forum functions, it's a big system and we can wait to get all of these sweet possibilities.

At the end of the day, this is a beta, and a very new beta at that. I guess a big part of that is seeing how people use the existing forum structure, in order to later tweak things so there's less duplicate posting and confusion about where posts belong.

Plus, I've heard a LOT of people here say they've not used forums before. Might take a while for them to figure out how it differs from their usual social media haunts.

This gives me an idea for a new forum concept, inspired by the way Dishonored creators designed their game.

Rather than blocking the beta-players from exploiting the game, they redesigned it AROUND the exploits.

Of course, in forum form, this would be hell on Earth.

The forum doesn't have a built-in search funtion yet. That might help. At the moment, if you think there may already be a thread about something, you have to manually trawl through multiple pages of topics. It's easy to miss stuff.
