Im kind of new to cosplaying homestuck, and Im looking for any advice for making any sort of character cosplays :0
so far ive already made one troll and would like to do more, but the handmade horns I made for it are super finicky and Im worried about using the same method with bigger horns (ie Gamzee, Tavros, ect)
Id also love to do some of the kids as cosplays too, but Im unsure how to make myself recognizable if i kept the outfits simple, or where to even start if I were to attempt god tier outfits :U
please shoot out any tips & tricks you might have, anything is helpful!! :]
aw yeah, awesome signature
for bigger horns make the base shape using tinfoil then cover with air dry clay or polymer if u have an oven and aren't broke like me. just smoothen it then paint then seal like normal biz
there's actually an official cosplay resource on homestuck.net, there's stuff from props to godtier outfits im pretty sure. and you can always search on tumblr theres tons that's where i usually look for
https://homestuck.net/resources/cosplay.html
scroll up and down to make them jump!!
also just to clarify i might have rudely worded something :^ i meant that as "broke like me" and that there is a better option but i use air dry clay
scroll up and down to make them jump!!
Hiya!! I'm trying to compile the cosplay resource threads rn...

I'm not sure how to give advice if you don't have a specific character yet, but I think it's really helpful to figure out your deadline and your costume.
1. Break your costume down from top to bottom, every accessory, wig, makeup, clothing item, shoes, props, etc. EVERYTHING.
2. What's time sensitive? What projects will take effort over time, and what can be done in shorter periods?
3. (OPTIONAL) make a rough timeline for acquiring materials and building!
This is what I usually try to do, with a few weeks of wiggle room if possible. Even if you don't try to organize the timing, it can be so helpful to break it down!
When I do horns, I usually begin them as one of the first pieces of the costume because they usually take me longer to sand, perfect and seal.

i agree with wolfykitty, not 100% sure how to give super specific advice without knowing what character youre looking to cosplay, but my general rule for cosplay is that thrifting is your friend! ive found tons of really cool outfit pieces that i use for various homestuck characters. i thrifted my jade skirt, aradia outfit, a dress for fairy vriska, most of my kanaya outfit, etc etc. it took me a long time to slowly acquire a bunch of different pieces but thrifting is really good for cosplaying if youre on a budget! and if you have any sewing skills then you can always modify thrifted pieces to make them more suited to your liking or to fit canon better, although my other piece of advice would be dont worry too much about "looking canon" or anything like that! absolutely nothing wrong with simple/casual outfits, all that matters is that youre having fun with your cosplay :]
