Hi! I'm very new to the Homestuck Cosplay scene, and have practically 0 experience with makeup outside of lipstick and blush.
Can I get tips for sealing my Mehron Creamblend Stick? I bought the colorset powder from them but sometimes It's just not fully setting and I'd rather not cause an incident when I do eventually wear this in public for the first time. Am I just not applying enough? How do you seal your paint? What's the best way to test and make sure everything is sealed?
I remember watching this panel at last year's Sahcon- For anyone coming to this thread and weighing their options, it's a good watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBn_eh1h5U4
However, it doesn't cover cream products because it is focused on painting your arms. Arctic, are you painting just your face or other parts of your body?
In my experience I have used Ben Nye's neutral set over my creamblend and had it last for most of the day, albeit in need of some touchups by the end. I do try to apply a large amount, and I dust off excess after. I don't usually touch or rub my face, but I always have someone with clean hands rub my neck to make sure it is not smearing and won't damage my costume. I don't usually touch much with my face, so as far as I can tell I have never had any issues with my face or neck. It does rub off on the inside of Calliope's bowtie, but that's not too surprising to me because it's rubbing on my neck all day. All gray, perhaps... Heheh...
I don't have any experience with Mehron's setting powder, so I'm not sure how similar or different it is to Ben Nye.

just my face! i think i'll eventually get/make armsleeves for my arms, but i'll definitely give that video a watch.
im starting to think i mightve underestimated just how much powder i needed to apply to my face, haha. definitely gonna apply way more than i have been.
this probably isnt very helpful for your situation specifically, but ive used light grey snazaroo and set it with baby powder for years and ive never had any problems. its a water based face paint as opposed to a cream based one like mehron, and it dries pretty quickly and nicely in my opinion and i can usually last a long time before i need a touchup with it. while ive never used grey mehron specifically, i use white mehron paint for a few of my non homestuck cosplays and ive honestly never had much luck with getting it to dry/set properly even after using a metric fuck ton of powder. not totally sure what the secret is to getting mehron to set nicely either honestly which is why i typically just stick to snazaroo/water based paints in general when it comes to cosplaying.
again sorry thats probably not very helpful ;_;
re:arctic Maybe? I wonder if it's something to do with how thick the layer of paint is before you set it. I tend to find a thinner layer more comfortable, so I usually do that- but if I want a more opaque coverage, sometimes I do a thicker layer. Maybe sealing between think layers could help there? I've never really had any issues. How much powder do you usually use?

sealing paint became such a freaking issue for me that i entirely switched from face PAINT to colored FOUNDATION by sunset makeup. this is not a paid ad i swear i just think it worked so much better for me. i use their white for mettaton cosplays but they have a grey as well. the main reason i swapped is that the more paint + setting powder + setting spray you have on, the more you can really really feel how much gunk is on your face. it really fucked with my sensory issues and then i didnt care if it was staying on or not- at that point i wanted it off again. switching to a foundation thats meant to not be felt so much was really great for that in particular! if you can afford it, many homestucks i know use sunset makeup's grey for trolls now. i think having a variety of methods at your disposal is really great, just for options!

Sealing cream face paint can 8e quite a hassle for me as well. I find that most makeup powders don't a8sor8 as much moisture as I usually need to actually seal it in, so I switched to using straight up corn starch instead.
I simply pat it on my skin with a fluffy 8rush, 8eing careful to not pick up the cream underneath and let it sit for a couple minutes, then gently 8rush off the excess and follow with setting spray to get rid of the powdery look it leaves.
For photoshoots or if I'm wearing it for a short period this is usually enough, 8ut if I'm gonna stay in character for a few hours then I like to seal it all in with a thin layer of fixing spray at the very end, just 8e careful to not lay it on too thick 8ecause it can get a little uncomforta8le.
This method has kept my makeup 8asically un8othered for at least 4 hours, so it might help ya.
