if you have questions that don't deserve their own thread, want feedback on WIPs, or just want to yap about something, here's a thread to do that in.
as a sort of first ante for the thread, here's the brushes i use for burning down the house. they're meant for working at panel scale (650x450) and only work in clip studio paint.

to add- if youre struggling with getting the right AMOUNT Of pixelated on your panels despite the size being around 650x450, try lowering your canvas DPI. I work in 700x700 at 72 dpi for HS style panels. 300dpi is great for print, but it's increasing your resolution! fuck around with your DPI to see what resolution works for the style youre going for! i work in CSP in particular but i expect it works similarly on other programs.

Victoria, you are a godsent. Thank you for this thread. I know that it'll save me many times, so I must thank you beforehand.
Give my story a read, please.

i have no one to ask this to not even reddit bcz its so stupid. does anyone know how to make this part of the layers like. BIGGER? on clip studio paint btw. i see others and their thing is bigger while mine is so tiny i can barely differentiate what layer it is and i have to manually click thru them.
scroll up and down to make them jump!!
@davespritejohn: to change a thumbnail size for a layer you can right click the preview and choose it from a dropdown
you can also use the Object subtool to select a layer by clicking on your canvas, set it up to filter out locked/clipping layers and it works like a charm.

I don't use CSP, but setting layer thumbnails to crop out the transparent areas around the layer content is a common setting for art programs to have. Looking it up, it seems like this is how you do it: https://ask.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=16666
"There is a tab written as "◇ Layer" at the top of the layer palette,
I think there is a small icon of "▶ three" on the left side.
Click there and select "From thumbnail display setting"
Please uncheck "Show transparent part"."
Granted, this thread is from 6 years ago, and Google translated from Japanese, so things might be different. I'm guessing you can probably just do what Victoria said except go under "Thumbnail display settings" instead.

I have CSP, here are modern instructions/english UI
Click the menu tool to the left of the 'layer' pallete. Towards the bottom there's an option called 'thumbnail display settings'. Turn on 'show only layer area' to remove the transparency from the thumbnail previews.
