would be fucking awesome, but if the license specifically genesis project i doubt itll happen anytime soon due to the Amount of Bugs, i love playing tgp but it does get annoying with the bugs lolol.

they’re probably putting a lot of art and resources toward the pilot at the moment, but I can see this happening in the future, perhaps if the genesis project makes it into FRAF or something simila.

This is some straight up delirious biznasty, Dawg!!

I don't really know how a 'real sburb' would even work tbh. Genesis project is like the closest thing to it and honestly I'm not even sure what the point of that is yet (I haven't played it in a long while tho)

that would be awesome tbh. last time i played genesis project was in like 2019 but it was fun even with all the bugs and connectivity issues and whatnot, and if the concept was hashed out properly i think itd make for a fun game. if it ever does happen i hope theyre able to commit to all the alchemization possibilities because thats always been a cool ass part of sburb hehehe

@twistedtimeline

in my opinion the bugs are what makes the game fun, its a game of trial and error to me

It would make sense with the like, brand expansion thing HS as a whole has been doing recently, but for now they are probably going all in with the pilot.

Now if it was fr done i would love something a bit less lineal and based on interactions than The genesis project, idk how to explain it but kinda like Death Stranding in a way?¿

These first two drafts rejected with a single written critique:
“It is rapturous still, the way you fill a page. I find it to be lacking.”

I doubt it. They haven't even gotten Hiveswap/Hauntswitch out yet, and those are much simpler games to make. Especially if the hypothetical sburb remake allows alchemy.

i mean, part of the point of sburb is that it's so complex it cannot practically be a real game, and that's not just in the sense that something like alchemy can have endless possibilities, the game itself is needlessly complicated by design. like half of the devices in sburb just complicate theoretically simple processes for no reason.

that being said it's not that sburb cannot be simplified into a real video game - it totally can, it's just that it will take a lot of resources to make for what is largely a pretty generic end product, like sburb in its conception is a bunch of quite typical video game elements stuck together. i think the appeal of a sburb video game is overexaggerated, like in the comic the whole client-server relationship is cool partially because it happens in the real environment and the impending doom is something that you get to witness as the audience. imagine if you were playing a real video game and the fact of whether or not you get a game over before even starting is whether every single one of your friends you're playing with managed to deploy all the shit their client needs on time and in convenient enough places for everyone to enter on time. and if we follow the events as they happen in the comic, it all must happen one by one, meaning that the bigger your session is the more time you'll spend just waiting around. and that's not even getting into the fact that in this setup it's entirely possible that you enter first and make significant progress in the game, only to find out one of your friends fucked up the entering so all your progress is lost and you have to start over.

this, of course, can all be worked around, for example you could streamline the entrance process or cut it out altogether, but then what you're left with is the actual process of playing sburb - which is so filler even the comic basically doesn't show it. even the process of building up your client's house seems like a mindnumbing task in practice - imagine if you have to halt your entire adventure and personal quest every once in a while to sit and spend like half an hour playing sims build mode except the only goal is to build the structure as tall as possible. the meat of sburb seems to be exploring dungeons and killing enemies, which is never fully focused on in the comic, so the game would need to basically be made from scratch and probably be yet another action rpg which is vaguely homestuck themed.

my point is it's possible to make a sburb game, but either you keep in all the iconic elements of sburb from homestuck and make it practically unplayable, or you streamline it and make into a pretty generic action rpg with maybe a few homestuck gimmicks which will probably take too much resources to make for the ultimately niche audience it'd be filling.

either way i don't see this being a realistic project, especially not in any foreseeable future.

The current strat in TGP is to build a tower of toilets that exploit the teleport to seat mechanic, rather than the haphazard setpieces that we see in the comic. I'd say optimizing the fun out of it, but the building is just so divorced from the game loop that people treat it like a chore.

I wouldn't call making a Sburb-game impossible. TGP exists, of course, and I remember an impressive Minecraft "infinite crafting" mod was released recently that worked quite similar to alchemizing. It's possible, though it would take a lot of effort, and the Homestuck team(s) have enough on their plate already - for the next decade, at least.

From my experience, Sburb is the kind of game that's fun to read about, but painful to actually sit down and play.

Not only is it very easy to screw up your entire game, it's confusing and at times actively hostile to first-time players. The pre-entry barrage of information (on a timer!!) is especially egregious. Even if you've read the comic front to back, you'll probably fail this part at least 5 times before you get it right. I get why it's there lore-wise, but from a game design perspective, it sucks.

As apocryphal as it is, any super-serious "Sburb game" will have to make some major design changes. Personally, I'd start with moving sprite-prototyping to early game (after entry), because this gives a real reason as to why a player should prototype their sprite outside of "because you have to" - the sprite gets made so it can help you in this new world you've landed in!

I do like TGP's stab at it, though. But if I were in charge of making a Homestuck game I wouldn't bother with it...would probably make that "Alternia Online" idea instead.

I think a Sburb Video Game could be done well if executed correctly, and I would like to try my hand at it one day with a Video Game adaptation of Tablestuck's mechanics. In my opinion, of the past attempts at this I've seen I honestly think the Minecraft mod Minestuck does it the best. Still definitely not close to being everything I'd want from a Sburb game, but its the closest I think that currently exists to the experience I'd want in a video game format.

The Genesis Project is also pretty cool but, being honest, its kind of unplayable right now. Some friends and I tried to do a session back on 4/13 and we were trying for like 5 hours straight restarting and not once got a run where we could all enter without at least one of us getting hit with a game breaking glitch that made us need to restart.

cami - yeah... tgp is Trying Its Best but i genuinely couldn't get into games without forced restarts, disconnections, or somehow straight up losing the disk. also afaik there's not much to do once you're actually IN the game
