there's been some talk about doc scratch here and there, but I don't think we have a Doc Scratch Thread, and I wanna talk about him
doc scratch is one of my favorite antagonists in anything ever. just as the trolls were based on types of internet trolls, doc scratch is a Very Real Guy, and one I think a loooot of people have experience with. he's a bitch ass groomer and just like in real life he never actually gets punished in a way that meaningfully hinders his goals.
what are your thoughts on doc scratch? feel free to be critical! just because he's my favorite piece of shit, doesn't mean he has to be compelling to you.
i'll inevitably end up saying more in response, but I wanna leave this mostly open for other people to start sharing their thoughts first
the epilogues are the best part of homestuck
Doc Scratch is i think my second fav villain behind Ultimate Dirk rn. Which, y'know, Dirk is a part of Scratch, too. Honestly, exploring Scratch as a manifestation of AR/Dirk//Gamzee/Caliborn/Equius souls' from Cal is an angle I don't see a lot. I think he mostly manifests as Dirk/Equius, which is interesting, seeing the qualities of characters we may theoretically like in a guy with no redeeming qualities.
I'm also really interested to see what he's up to in Hiveswap? The idea of new Doc Scratch stories, or plans he had outside of Homestuck... very interesting.
Doc Scratch is my single favorite antagonist in Homestuck. He is reprehensible to a degree where i find him just incredibly entertaining, and overall I just really enjoy his presence in the comic. He's somehow the scariest antagonist in the whole comic just because nothing ever really phases or hurts him, and he's always in complete control.
Hiya. Just a random question, but you know what a majority vote is?
Doc Scratch isn't just the best villain in Homestuck, he's one of my favourite villains in everything ever. He's just so perfectly crafted on a thematic and character level.

@Blueberry: This is something I also really enjoy. I think another angle to take it from is that, while in the writing process Calliope is inspired by Doc Scratch, in-universe and on Caliborn/LE's timeline, Calliope existed first, which leads to the reading Scratch was spitefully crafted in Calliope's image
Spades Slick is a butch lesbian 2k25
On top of the things already mentioned his creepy demeanor towards young girls makes him an especially vile villain that is super interesting but it's a shame how most people just look at him and think hurr hurr greatest pedophile in fiction
And that's about it.
I fucking love Doc Scratch, beyond just the villain stuff. The concept behind him is so good, I love meta narrative fuckery. Hell yes.
Hi, I'm Chris A.! READ FRAFFORUM FRADVENTURE
My friend thinks he'd sound like the Gman and honestly I'm inclined to agree.
Kindness, Kindness Terezi~ Kindness, Kindness Terezi~
I used to think the "scratch grooms little girls" thing was meant as like, unintentional comedy, but reading back he REALLY doesn't mess with any of the male cast at all. I think Spades Slick might literally be the only one he talks to.
I wonder if Lord English being a misogynist is just one big mobster kingpin reference.
it's so cool that homestuck has a satanic Deceiver Lord Of Lies type character who doesn't lie at all, because the moment he says anything it immediately BECOMES true. such a good spin on the author-insert concept. leading on from that i love that almost everything he does is just, like, the kind of stuff any writer does in the process of creating a story, but because he's actually There it becomes fucked up and evil
>eats somewhere other than olive garden once
>fucking dies
I think it's really interesting how Doc Scratch's creepy obsession with young girls ties that sort of predatory behavior to authorship in Homestuck, given he's an authorial figure.
"Without love, it cannot be seen."
I think he's an absolutely wonderful character. He's written phenomenally, he's a great authorial foil to Hussie, and he's just a really compelling villain. Definitely in the upper echelon of Homestuck Characters, despite his relatively short runtime.
8ut you already knew that, right?
he's an incredible antagonist and i hate him wholeheartedly
