FORUM GOD GAME: calvinball with cards

...Oh, and I forgot! As GOD, JUNE will also pick the ENVIRONMENT for this turn. Let's do this at the same time, for expediency's sake.

ENVIRONMENTS (pick one!):

- OLD BUILDING: All healing effects heal twice as much HP. At the start of each turn, all PLAYERS collect 3 COINS. BASIC cards can't attack. As an ACTION, BASIC cards may roll 1d20. If 10 or less, collect 3 COINS. If 20, give any character in play DEAD.

- FALLEN KINGDOM: When a card reaches 0HP, it is FLIPPED. At the end of the CHAPTER, discard all FLIPPED cards.

- S.S. KOIZUMI: Cards may ACT to roll 1d6. Either draw that many EXPLORE cards or collect that many COINS.

I'm conflicted on whether she should go with Kanaya or Keeper here. The latter is fairly luck dependent, and while June does already have access to more Exploring than usual, a strong Speed card like Kan showing up in Prologue is too good to pass up—especially as First God.

As for Environment, S.S. Koizumi feels like the right move here. It gives June another option for Kan's action turn 1 if she so chooses and far more on final turn, while likely locking her opponents out entirely. Fallen Kingdom should definitely go on the bottom, it's a straight downgrade without access to flipping *and* it overrides Kan's Deathrattle.

YOU purchase the ROULETTE BLOCK, the /PAGE/2393, KANAYA MARYAM, and BLUTO. Wait, no. He says his name's Brulo? You say that's not what it says on his card, and he just stares at you with that long-suffering look on his face. Whatever, he strikes you as a shrewd enough businessman. You shouldn't have much trouble, anyway. Not with KANAYA in your corner. You spend 11 coins, and save 1 for later.

At their respective PROLOGUE SHOPS, THE LATE NAGITO KOMAEDA spends all 12 of his coins, FUNKO POP VRISKA SERKET spends 11 of hers, and THE HAT GUY spends 10.

As GOD of Chapter 1, you ring in the S.S. Koizumi ENVIRONMENT. (OLD BUILDING is placed on the ENVIRONMENT DECK'S top, and FALLEN KINGDOM on its bottom.) It's a massive yacht. It's almost enough to impress you, and you're not even a boat girl. You're just not sure what the deal is with the BOAT GIRL. Which is to say, this giant statue of a young woman's head sitting over the helm? You don't exactly recognize her. You catch a glint in the eye of the guy in the picture frame.

JUNE's turn! She is overtaken with the urge to IMMEDIATELY CONSUME THAT BLOCK SHE JUST GRABBED. It turns out that those things, despite being game abstractions, actually DO kind of feel like BITING INTO FRUIT GUSHERS. By mouthfeel, if nothing else.

Using the ROULETTE BLOCK, four CARDS are SEARCHED from the EXPLORE DECK. A choice flashes before your eyes. You must PICK ONE TO DRAW; the rest will be shuffled back into the EXPLORE DECK.

You're so focused on doing that first that you didn't even notice, but the SHOP is now open! Not the PROLOGUE SHOP, that was something different. This shop's sitting in the center of the board, flush with characters waiting to be snagged for an affordable price by whoever picks them first.BASIC CARDS (2c):

- NERGAL JR. - 1[Power]3. Whenever an opposing card triggers its SHOWSTOPPER, deal this card's DMG to that card indirectly.

SKILLED CARDS (5c):

- MIDBUS - 8[Taunt/Power]5. This card considers opposing cards that have POWER to be RESOLUTE, and takes +2DMG from POWER cards. If an opponent has a card with POWER, all cards on that PLAYER'S field may ignore this card's TAUNT.

- TOFFEE - 4[]4. No PLAYERS can trigger KEYWORDS on any card.

- SPADES SLICK - 6[]4. The game cannot be restarted by any effect. The CHAPTER count cannot be decreased, and can only be increased when a CHAPTER begins as normal. All +DMG this card receives is doubled.

You've got a big empty playing field sitting in front of you. You guess you better start filling these SLOTS with some CHARACTERS.

You note that with KANAYA'S SPEED, she'd get over the initial exhaustion and be able to perform an action as soon as she's SUMMONED. Better have something in mind for her to do right away if you call her in...

I made sure to change everything else to reflect Courtney's purchase, but neglected to reflect it in the first paragraph... oh no...

Weird pick, I know, especially compared to a Pokeball, *especially* when June's retcon cooldown is 2 turns instead of reactive's turn start. Champions won't even be out for a good few chapters!

But. And this is merely a hunch, but I get the strangest feeling that guy in the funny hat may have something to do with this "Stopped Time" mechanic. Having any way to engage with it, even as a relatively expensive Overdrive, in June's back pocket could come in handy here.

(Would you rule Parallel Falchion as granting an action during Stopped Time generally, or only as part of its Overdrive?)

(That's a good question! Lemme double-check the rules.)

(It's tempting to say the Parallel Falchion would need its Overdrive triggered to grant its character actions within Stopped Time. But the rules are clear! All cards that can create Stopped Time are also able to Act during Stopped Time.)
(I could still rule otherwise if I wanted to. After all, the Falchion's what creates the Stopped Time, not whichever character it gets attached to, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to say: "The character with the Parallel Falchion does not themselves create Stopped Time, and therefore cannot act within Stopped Time.")

(But that'd be boring. More to the point, that's not entirely how I'd rule Attachment cards work. Unless some other effect calls for them separately, I consider a Character with an Attachment to be one entity with the effects of both cards. So whoever gets the Falchion can act freely in Stopped Time.)
