I only got into Homestuck over the summer of 2018, but I had a friend who was in it before then, and I was really into Undertale at the time too. So for about a year I was absorbing information about it, and I kind of built up a conception in my head of what it was like. I'm kind of fascinated with this specific version of it that only existed in my head, so I'm posting it here.
The basic premise of Homestuck, at least as I understood it when I was 13, is that it's about a boy who gets abducted from earth and sent to a futuristic cyberpunk planet inhabited by trolls. Over the course of his adventure he joins up with a rebellion against the trolls' government, and discovers an interplanetary conspiracy of some kind.
It's really interesting me what details I absorbed and how I interpreted and extrapolated off of them. For instance, I thought Jade was an adult some reason, and conflated her with Doc Scratch as well. I knew the thing about how if you gave the author enough money they'd put your fantroll in the comic only to kill them off, but I assumed the fee was like 20 bucks and the offer was always open until the comic ended. I extrapolated entire characters out of singular pieces of contextless fanart.
I kinda wanna just talk about it, so if anyone wants to ask questions about my weird faux-homestuck feel free to ask. I'll probably be sharing stuff I remember misremembering even if I don't get any questions. I kinda wanna develop it into a fanventure, but I'm not sure I have enough substance.
The first part is just literally the plot of Hiveswap, that's incredible.
@forgotpassword The Hiveswap trailer appearing in my steam suggested definitely factored into my opinion of what Homestuck was like, lmao. I imagined it as a sort of reverse-invader-zim situation where he had to remain disguised or he'd be killed. (The disguise of course being the beagle puss and bowler hat he was holding on the cover of book one.)
Lol again that's Hiveswap -- Joey eventually assumes fake horns and some troll clothing to blend in. Not unreasonable to think the original story would be doing the same thing I suppose
it's not really my proto-homestuck perceptions, but i had a weirdly prophetic dream about doc scratch. like, creepily on the nose???
it was during the pandemic, so the dream took place on zoom. i think i was watching lots of videos about true crime and cults at the time. if i remember right, the plot was that this was some sort of like. cult initiation zoom. i remember the guy typed in white cursive on a dark bg, and thinking woah, i like his style. various Cult Terrifying things ensue i think i had to like hurt my mom or flee and get hunted down by the CultTM i woke up really scared lol.
anyways, cut to me reading homestuck, seeing the cursive text, and going woah, i like this guys style.
.......i genuinely have no clue how that aligned so well. its so wild and crazy to me that i had a random dream and it just??? coincidentlly is so close????
i think most of my proto-homestuck ideas were from Famous Fandom StoriesTM (sharpie bath). I knew about Vriska and Penumbra Phantasm lol.

I remember before I ever read Homestuck I was first exposed to it in the form of fantroll forum roleplays. I knew they had "hives" and "brooding caverns", so I imagined they all lived underground surrounded by slime and bug nonsense and served the mother grub in a much more classically insectoid way. I guess I was only half way wrong?
I also might have been confusing what the trolls looked like in my mind with the bug guys from Invader Zim, which I also never saw haha.

@bodertz i knew the kids all ran into alternate-universe versions of themselves at some point, and i assumed these versions were trolls. in my mind jade ('Doctor Hailey Scratch,' i remember thinking her name was) cloned some trolls based on her son and her son's friends, and sent them to the troll planet for some unknown purpose. i knew vaguely that genetics and cloning were involved in homestuck's story, and extrapolated from there. Hailey also spliced herself with radioactive dog genes at some point.
