Youre only 18 so I don't want to be extra rude about this but it's probably important to understand that "proship stuff" isn't a concept most people actually know about or care about or can define.

i doubt discussion of these sorts of topics are endorsed by the staff, and the rules [https://www.fruityrumpus.com/forums/rules] forbid explicit text and images as well as discussions of adult/minor relationships. But other than that it's sort of in a grey area? id play it safe and not discuss it, maybe bring it up with one of the mods. idk if sfw discussion of incest or what have you falls under the forum's definition of 'explicit'.

Well, incest is a topic discussed with some regularity in the comic, so if people couldn't discuss it on the forums we would be absolutely unable to engage with the text. So I feel like the answer to that should be obvious...?

If someone was posting, like, obvious incest kink posts about the characters, I would expect that to receive immediate moderative action, but that's because they're making people uncomfortable on purpose. Not because it falls on the wrong side of "proship vs. antiship". It's just an awful framework for talking about these kinds of topics.

the first thing to do when engaging with media, especially media like homestuck, is understand that there are always always always grey areas. if everyone rigidly followed every one of the rules we would never post anything out of fear of breaking them. this is why proship/anti is kind of a dumb dichotomy, both sides are built on reactionary responses to Opinions That Arent Mine rather than engagement with any real discussion

i can not stress enough that there is no general accepted internet definition of proship. there are certainly a number of topics that fall under that ambiguous blanket more often than not but to some people that also means like. characters who engage in slapstick comedy. Why do I use that as a specific example? Well because one of the very first times I heard this term thrown around was at myself. For liking Crow/Aion, a ship in the sanrio franchise Show By Rock of two bandmates in a visual kei group who, mostly in the anime less so in the games, tend to get involved in rambunctious teasing and slapstick bits. Apparently a character hitting another in any context, regardless of how over-the-top and cartoony and Made By Sanrio The Hello Kitty People it is, is abuse and Should not be Shipped ever. Who knew! However, i think you may be able to see how if someone was more vindictive and petty they could simply leave out the context of exactly what the ship that I enjoy is and make a big fluffed up callout post about me, and then I'd be in quite hot water wouldnt I? It is a bit of a "I don't like you so I will call you this" kind of term you know? it is that ambiguity that has caused a lot of trouble for completely decent folks.

And as pointed out, the dichotomy leverages on pure black and white thinking. There is nothing wrong with discussing darker topics like incest or sexual assault, if no one ever talked about them at all then it'd be all the harder for people to find the words and understanding to ask for help. And in a less serious matter theres works (such as yaknow Homestuck) that engages with these topics and like. It'd be kinda silly to banish anyone who decided to directly quote that "cats dont care about that kinda stuff" conversation to the shadow realm. When it comes to any forum or small/indie social media site/even discord servers the question isnt "do they allow proship or not" its "do you, yourself, trust the mods to make the right call in knowing the difference between discussion and unsolicited erotica." How much you can trust any mod team is key in many matters. In my opinion and experience is that its Fine if theres one mod you just cant stand it'd be foolish to expect perfection and nothing else, However! If its a majority of the mod staff you dont care for, find them to flaunt their power, or just dont seem to have good heads on their shoulders.... Get outta there! Skedaddle before its too late!

"Pro-ship vs. Anti-ship" is a textbook example of a made-up tension, a completely artificial conflict that does not solidly relate to any serious approach to fiction writing, fanfiction writing, fandom activity or media literacy.

The reason for that is simple: the entire matter relies on what is understood as "problematic". Roughly speaking, "Pro-ship" means "I support/accept all kinds of ships even if they are problematic" and "Anti-ship" is "Problematic ships? YOU SHALL NOT PASS.

But everyone has a different definition of "problematic". Like Autumn said, for some people, splastick comedy is enough to label the ship as problematic. Some people will accept incest but not 20 years old dating 26 years old. Other people will denounce a person of a privileged category dating a person of an oppressed category. Etc etc. It's an everchanging minefield.

So I don't think the mods can give you an answer here, because they are operating by more definable moral standards.

When you lived through the 1990s-2000s Evangelion Ship Wars, when Shinji's canonical romance choices were between 1. a quite violent and ill-tempered tsundere with incredible mommy issues, 2. a clone of his mother groomed by his father, 3. a spy of dubious canonicity (Mana Kirishima), 4. the most perfect boy but alas a million years old soul (PROBLEMATIC AGE GAP!!!!) and also in the manga he kills a cat...

All of these considerations make you laugh endlessly.
