Intersex Headcanons for Homestuck characters

i really like the idea that roxy & dirk's "assigned genders" were less about their bodies/chromosomes/etc. and moreso about what alpha dave & rose expected them to be? both of them being intersex fits pretty well with this, i think

I mean, I feel like there's a lot to say with Calliope, especially since she's named in part after the character from Jeffrey Eugenides's novel Middlesex, a novel about an intersex character named Cal (initially "Calliope") Stephanides

i've always thought of the trolls and cherubs as inherently intersex species i love this

@nyquillionaire Yo! just a heads up you’re misusing the term intersex. An “inherently intersex species” wouldn’t be intersex, that would just be their version of perisex. The word intersex is supposed to describe deviations of typical sex development for a species.

More appropriate words to use would be cosex, dualsex, monoescious, or gonosimulites. Those are some alternatives words I’ve seen around the internet. I hope that helps!

I wish this forum had a tagging system because this is very serious misinfo/misinterpretation and I don’t want it to be spread rip. I mean my correction lightheartedly though I’m not mad dw. I’m gonna respond to the other replies now I just wanted to type that correction first

@acidiccarnation I’ve had those exact same thoughts too! Like perhaps they got Roxy and Dirk’s assigned genders wrong. I think it would give both of them a bit more conflicting views on their genders because I know both of them love and respect their guardians, and want to live up to their expectations even though the alpha guardians have been dead for 413 years.

@vriskazone YOURE SO RIGHT!!! I feel like I heard of that name inspiration but I completely forgot! That is a neat idea, and that got me thinking, you can interpret Calliope (and Caliborn since they shared the same body) not getting wings as a possible signs of a cherub intersex variation? I cant remember if the wing colors are sex-aligned or personality aligned, but I think it would be a very interesting interpretation if it is sex-aligned because I know some intersex variations result in no characteristics developed at all.

I know the canon reason for Caliborn not getting wings was because killing Calliope early stunted his development forever, but still, what I wrote could still be interpreted as a cherub intersex headcanon, right?

Ok so I need to say what I headcanon about the humans cus i havent thought of any equivalents for the trolls just yet. I only have headcanons about two of the humans, Roxy and Tavvy.

With Roxy, I imagine him having some sort of gonadal dysgenesis, because I think Candy!Roxy gives birth? I think thats what happened (I didnt really read the epilogues I just skipped to Beyond Canon (oops)). And there are documented cases where people with XY give birth.

Tavvy I headcanon with De la Chapelle Syndrome.

And yeah off topic I didn’t read the epilogues cus i didnt want to read much I CANT READ IM AN UNDERTALE FAN!

I think I read a summary of the plot tho ^^;;; I should read the actual Epilogues at some point. I’m just a little intimidated by it that’s all, rip.

come on man i thought this was gonna be a cool thread but you gotta shut your ass up replying to a comment from an intersex person with Um Actually. intersex isnt conceptual or hypothetically semantic it’s a lived experience for people.

and i was actually going to leave a similar reply as nyq. cuz in homestuck the earth seems to represent the conservative ideal of normalcy and alternia represents the conservatives nightmare (google the movie gay n**** from outer space). so putting aside the fact that there are fully intersex species on earth in real life and u were just talking some sh, it’s also a cool idea conceptually for the trolls to be a fully intersex race to further tie into the theming that they embody some repressed truth about humanity. it’s also just cool.

I didnt know nyquillionaire was intersex im sorry. It wasn’t stated anywhere before that reply so I didn’t know. And the reason I said that was because I heard from other intersex people that was misusing the term and people should use something else, so I thought I was being helpful. I didn’t mean anything wrong by it. People can offer their space n such. If you think I was being an ass then I’m sorry. I just didnt know. This can still be a cool thread if yall want I don’t want to cause any hostility or debate thats all.
