Is my 'trash' button supposed to work?

I think maybe it only works on non-pinned threads? at least I know it doesn't work for me in them which is why I wound up asking a mod to trash a post so I could put up an edited version in one. I haven't tried it yet on other posts though so I guess I'll find out by trying here.

Supposedly there are issues regarding editing and deleting your own posts that make it difficult to moderate the forum, which is the first time I've ever heard something like that. Did they not think to implement an audit log, with information on the contents of messages? I mean, based on my experience with the moderation, they DO have an audit log and can tell who trashed what, so I don't entirely understand what makes it so difficult in the hands of individual users.

This is a bug, users are supposed to be able to trash their own posts and it will likely be fixed with our next update
