Just how much Homestuck related socials does Makin own, now?

i just can't fucking believe we're still dealing with this guy i remember exactly how toxic and awful he was, again, from when this shit went down 4 years ago.

Like I'm sure the Homestuck Reddit is great. It doesn't make transfem people feel uncomfortable at all that one of the top posts when you look up r/Homestuck is people openly celebrating a trans woman getting harassed off the internet.

yuup yep. you may notice as you spend more time in this space that there are some rather buddy-buddy folks that have their fingers in as many pies as they possibly can, making it very very difficult to avoid them if you do not want to deal with them for whatever reason even if its just petty annoyance. u-u

I'm not gonna like. harass the guy but Makin is both a control freak and a terrible admin and should not be in charge of as much as he is. I feel like his entire archival effort is one hissyfit away from being gone

100% on that. My main thing is if you get rid of your entire admin team enough times to have an edgy code word for it (ENGAGING RECKONING PROTOCOL) That's not a good sign.

i really do feel like makin and other notable figures have been able to step up in the absence of any major official presence, due to the fact that they are willing to be the news outlet and resource library for goings-on that the fandom needs.

hoping that active communication from the HICU and the creation of this forum helps push back against the idea that this fandom is the wild west. i like you guys and im happy to see a community that is overall more positive than the experience i have received from social media like reddit and their discord.

This is incorrect. There are a handful of removed comments on the main post about Gio's article, but most of those were not for or against Gio and were removed for unrelated reasons, and the remaining two were pure mudslinging (the comments being top-level and consisting of "Me when I am a transmisogynist" and "Then try again, dimwits.", the latter in response to the post title). Makin did ban one outspokenly anti-Gio account on suspicion of being a sockpuppet, but several others have made similar criticism without any such action. For completeness, in looking through the moderation log, I found two anti-Gio comments from a larger argument tree that seem to have been caught in the abuse and harassment filter for some reason, which I restored.

It's possible that I've missed one or two mod actions in the last four days, among the spate of vacuous reaction posts to the animated series, but if there's a broad censorship campaign afoot Makin would have to be somehow hiding it from his own staff.

The Homestuck Discord was one of the first servers I ever joined (and this must have been back in 2016 or 2017 or so, when Discord was still new) and was kind of a little shit who did not know how to behave themselves and got banned several times because they were fresh out of grade school and were not prepared for social interaction at such a rapid pace as Discord's. Despite my own behavior, I never really liked Makin at all. It's hard to think back to specifics since this was so long ago and the accounts related to it are long gone but I remember them being someone who had a sort of pessimistic aura about them that made things kind of miserable to be around, not to mention allowing certain... controversial topics on the server (The one thing I can distinctly recall about my time there was that it was a big meme to openly reference a very violent homophobic fan comic). Over time I concluded that my negative experiences relating to that community were simply because of my own behavior (and I don't doubt that this is still partially true) and that Makin was probably not all that bad of a guy, but he always made me kind of leery to hang around the general community anymore because of those traumatic experiences. Incidents like the whole whole Homestuck.net archive fiasco and the more recent example with them taking someone's random discord screencap and presenting it as "news" that Hussie wants to replace the comic with the show make me confused on how a person of this nature managed to become in charge of so many important sects of the community.

My experience was pretty similar, except that I made a few friends in MSPA-lit much to Makin's barely disguised seething. I ended up joining back a couple of years later, only to be banned from that channel almost immediately. He offered to unban me under the condition that I read at least five of his webnovel recs (yes, seriously) and he was only that generous because a few people in the channel liked me. Makin, your Reddit fiction is garbage and I wouldn't read Worm if you put a gun to my head.

He's just the definition of a self-righteous moderator. HSD is basically his personal dictatorship, where he's constantly drumming up drama and bestowing wisdom on the unwashed plebeians. He supposedly hates the HICU/Whatpumpkin/Beyond Canon/etc. shadow cabal, but he really just seems jealous that his own shadow cabal LARP doesn't have even more influence than it does.

Much like Gio making himself the main way to get the UHC (though, this must be made very clear, not the only way, nor the best one), Makin being everywhere feels less about Homestuck preservation and a love for the comic and more about making the fandom this homogeneous place where the wrong kind of fan isn't tolerated.

And if you're wondering what the "wrong kind of fan" is... Well I'm not saying it's exclusively trans women. But the average transfem experience of a Homestuck fan is that something will happen, and it can either be bad or good, but it somehow represents the end of the fandom forever, and it's somehow all the fault of this scary awful transsexual who looks just like you. And you better not raise your voice about how this feels targeted, or how there's bigots using all the "good faith criticism" as a shield for their blatant transphobia, or anything that isn't just nodding along or shutting the hell up.

And some of us do. We nod along. We shut the hell up. All in the vain hope they won't notice that, again, we look just like her.

I don't care if Makin sees this. I don't like that they're around to be quite honest, but unlike the other Homestuck online spaces cited above, transmisogyny is actually (in theory) discouraged instead of celebrated around here. A dog barking on the other side of a fence may be frightening, but as long as the fence works as intended, no one's gonna get bitten.

I hope not anyway.
