this has been on my mind lately, so i thought it would be prudent to teach people on here how to torrent if you dont already know how to do it! personally, i think its an important skill that everyone should know at least a little about. especially with the current threat of expanding copyright law and dmca takedowns happening everywhere, sometimes torrenting is the only way to find a file thats not available anywhere else.

this how to guide has explanations on terminology, how it works, and of course how to actually do it along with links to associated sites and software. truly, it has everything you need to know to teach yourself how to torrent.
if you dont know what torrenting is, or youve been meaning to learn but didnt know where to start, this guide is for you! i highly recommend you learn how to torrent!
and if youre already familiar with torrenting, fell free to share your experiences or advice!

Just a heads up, while torrenting itself isn't illegal I would be very careful because discussion of piracy can be a pretty hot topic in any online space legally.
Good bot.
Don't mind me, I'm just pondering my orbs...
I can vouch for this tutorial, used it myself a year or two ago when subscriptions started getting too pricey.
This was back when they still promoted Mullvad as VPN number 1. For the record, Mullvad still works fine for me. I never had port forwarding enabled while torrenting, and it's not too bad of an experience, outside of reaching less peers than usual (especially when seeding).
Since this discussion isn't talking about pirating anything specific or handing out magnet links to shows or something, and is functionally only a tech tutorial on torrenting (for downloading the Hannah Montana Linux ISO, of course), I doubt it will be taken down unless a mod gets particularly trigger-happy. I checked and, weirdly enough this forum doesn't seem to have any rules mentioning piracy at all...Yet

Yeah that's the thing lmao No issue talking about torrenting it's just that sometimes people (esp people who are newer to it) aren't really aware that discussing piracy openly is a good way to get a corporation breathing down your forum's neck. I was in a switch hacking discord and not a week would go by without at least one person getting banned for trying to talk about piracy because discord will obliterate your server for any discussion.
P.S. archive.org provides a torrent option for larger files. Very nice for when something is too large for a single browser session to handle. Could be useful considering the large volume of files on there + otherwise slow DL speeds
Also preservation of online stuff is pretty cool etc etc

RE: Squiddo oh, i see! (i thought you were talking to me... 😅) im used to acting with discretion on this topic, but i figured this forum would be a safe enough place to discuss. i hadnt thought of people taking it to other places. yes, i agree, if youre new to torrenting, please be careful where you mention it!
