Finally, someone's bringing up the REAL important topics! As someone who pretty much always likes The Clown Character in any given media I wholeheartedly endorse any and all clownversation.
It feels proper to bring up the Hiveswap clowns first. Some wonderful buffoons in there. Karako, my precious darling boy-or-possibly-girl-if-you-follow-that-fanon, is an absolutely splendid clown child who gets an enthusiastic Honk? of approval. Chahut is beautiful and wonderfully ominous and Barzum & Baizli are fucked up little guys, good for them!
Marvus... well I first experienced this man on his Friendsim route and let me tell you in no other route did the character's literal first line knock me flat out of my seat. 1000 Clown-type damage directly to my cerebellum. Wouldn't have it any other way.
For my favorite clown I have to go with Shorty from Killer Klowns from Outer Space. Really all of them, but they have the most unique design. I love how the movie is basically just a collection of "what if this thing clowns do was evil?". Also gotta give a shout out to the People's Joker as both the funniest and most emotionally effective clown in history.
I started writing the sentence "my least favorite clown is probably" but then I couldn't think of a clown I didn't like so I'll come back here if one comes to mind.
I absolutely love you all, this is so good. My favorite is obviously Gamzee, because he reminds me a lot of myself. I too am a fatherless, high as fuck, beautiful creature who just wants to be friends with everyone, and I feel for him. He was put in a situation where he was sober, blasphemed, and tired of everyone not actually trying with him. I'd say it was what the kids call a "valid crash out" but of course, it could have been avoided.
My least favorite clown is Cicero, he's a lil bitch.

Clowns are great and I think a really interesting character archetype that I'm p much always excited to see get expounded on.
@arashi500 I feel the same way! I really like the mystery and sudden change that comes with Clown Characters.

Truly! There's so much potential for interesting character moments when the Funny Clown slips and can't or won't be funny anymore. Or, alternatively, unwaveringly continues being the Funny Clown in spite of the situation...
Clowns are just such a versatile archetype. Obviously their origins are in wholesome, child-friendly entertainment, and they can still be played as such if the situation calls for it. But that also opens the door to subvert that in tons of different ways. You could make a scary clown(which is probably more popular now than the more traditional clown), you could do a clown that's not necessarily evil but still violent, you can have clown that's still funny but in a less family friendly way, or you could try and examine a character who's profession is a clown through contrasting their real life with their occupation. And that's only scratching the surface.
I also pretty much skipped past the more "normal" clowns because I am admittedly less experienced in that realm but there's a ton of variety there too(jesters, rodeo clowns, etc.). basically clowns are pretty cool.
Also I thought about it and my least favorite clown is Jack from the restaurant chain Jack in the Box.

Clowns are awesome. No two ways about it. Funny clowns, scary clowns, sad clowns, stoner clowns, all of them are great. I love clowns. That includes jesters and harlequins, by the way. Mimes are so-so. The whole philosophy of clowning and putting on the costume to express yourself and entertain people is fascinating to me. As far as my favorite clowns, Gamzee is certainly up there, he’s not as appreciated as he should be. Violent J as well. The Joker is of course one of the best clowns, arguably one of the most iconic villains ever. Overall, clowns are great in anything, no matter what. God I love clowns.

Porcelain cat clown dolls are specifically very gender to me. Cat jesters with clown makeup too. I like the vast error clown character too but I gotta reread it since I lost my spot and that laptop died. 😩

kinda basic but i think my favorite clown is Harley Quinn. i always loved arleen sorkin's initial performance for her, and then they went and gave the character a whole amimated series that goes so hard (for the first couple seasons anyway). she's such a fun kind of chaotic good murderhero.
on the other end, and yet right next door, the Joker has kind of become my least favorite clown. i think there are a lot of interesting uses of the character to explore why batman is kind of a bad person, but he's been played to death, become too popular and made too sympathetic for the wrong reasons, he's an icon for a kind of nihilistic pessimist overcurrent in society i despise. this just applies to new joker renditions though -- the animated series hamill joker and ledger and a couple others keep a special place in my heart.

A new favorite clown of mine that I only recently learned about is The Fool from Realm of the Elderlings. To quote a good lil post about him and his whole deal I found on tumblr:
"imagine having your own personal hater who's been assigned to you by fate and he is a tiny little clown who won't stop following you around and yammering about your imminent demise and worst of all you love him dearly"

and i find . clown food amusing. clown meat clown icecreams . Hmm
