Looking for music and guest artists for an animation within my comic, Sovereign of the Sunken World!
More information on our webcomic can be found here, if you're curious about the characters, we’ve just reached our 400th page, and plan to end the chapter with a bang!
FOR MUSICIANS:
This is a one off opportunity, as we'll only need a song to accompany a short animation we're making. If you’re interested, please feel free to dm me with examples of your musical work and your pricing, and preferably choose examples that fit the description below. But if you've never worked with the genre before that's fine! We may request a sample song (30 seconds long) to see if you can capture the energy we're looking for, and we’ll provide you with an animatic we’ve made to give you a general sense of the timing and pacing we’re looking for. If and when we decide we like your 30 second sample, we will then go forward with a full rendition of the song. We will ask only one musician to make a complete song.
That said, we’re open to some flexibility with the timing and energy of the music. If you feel a melody or crescendo would work better with a slight adjustment to the visuals such as building up or having an impact sooner, we’re happy to tune the timing of our animatic to meet the ideas you have for your music. This is of course a service we are offering to whomever we pick as our final musician.
The music description:
- We’re looking for a song around 1.30 - 2 minutes long that will be overlaid onto an animation. There will be no dialogue in this animation so the music will solely be the driver of emphasising the emotion.
- A bit about the animation we’re doing: It’s capturing a scene which exists in an older time, most notably the Golden Age of Piracy, so we’d be ideally looking for the inclusion of more classical instruments such as an Accordion, Trumpets, Drums but more rock-heavy instruments can be introduced as the song ramps up in intensity.
- The animation is going to show pirates encountering and battling a dragon, so we would like to have a song that sounds piratical but. The Captain is represented by an Accordion.
- There is another character who is represented by a Lute, but this character is a lot nicer than the Captain, who is a pirate. So you could go a more melancholy/less intense melody when their instrument shows up.
- In the middle of the animatic both instruments are ideally wrestling for the ‘narrative’ as it’s meant to be a combination of memories merging and disfiguring into one.
- Something with a similar sound to A Taste for Adventure (Has a touch of Melancholy and Drama) or Deliver Us (around the 1.33 minute mark), what I like about them both is it having an impactful ‘DUN DUN DUH DUN’ to impact certain scenes happening.
If and when you finish your music, you will be added to the SOTSW’s credit pageS so please give us some form of social media so we can properly redirect your would-be fans to you.
FOR ARTISTS:
In a fashion similar to what Hussie did with their animations, we want to showcase artists from the community! As me and my co-authors are artists and fully equipped to draw this animation, we are asking for the altruistic donation of your work as if we don’t receive any offers for guest artists we will just draw it all ourselves. As such, this is an unpaid role and is entirely based on your personal desire to have art in SOTSW.
If this interests you, please dm me with examples of your art, and if we like your work we will give you a list of scenes/sketches you can claim and draw. We must specify that we are looking for a quick turn around on this animation, and as such you will have a maximum of two weeks to finish whichever scenes/sketches you claim, starting from the day this recruitment is posted. We also ask that you only claim one scene/sketch at first, and if you complete your work before the two week limit you may claim another one. Whichever scenes/sketches aren’t finished by the two week limit will, again, be taken by me and my co-writer to finish, so please examine your drive to make art and determine if you can follow this quick of a turn around before you claim a scene/sketch.
If and when you finish your art, you will be added to the SOTSW’s credit page so please give us some form of social media so we can properly redirect your would-be fans to you.
