Okay, so there was a new update, and I just wanted to talk a bit about Lylac because she's slowly becoming one of my new favorites. First off, Lylac strikes to me as a character who goes against this very strange and gloomy Squiddle culture from the jump. She uses incredibly outdated and broken-down technology, even though all of her friends keep telling her to just upgrade. She loves cartoons and views them as art, but she has a particular fondness for older cartoons. Her wallpaper is Rocky and Bullwinkle, lol, which is a cartoon from the 1950s about a moose and a squirrel going on adventures.

She likes actual bombs that will explode and detonate in her room. One could say Lylac is also a character who causes her own misfortune, as just her room alone is full of a bunch of things that just contradict one another. Like, of course, her computer is run down if she's always hitting it, and also keeps bombs next to it T_T She lives near water and yet cannot keep any of her plants alive.

All of this, and it's very clear she's a pretty apocalyptic character who's being set up as someone who will usher in something cataclysmic. The bomb motifs aside, even her name that she has chosen for herself is very "apocalypse" coded. I think Lylac will help break this never-ending cycle for once. I know a lot of people believe that this is the session that will create the Trolls universe and whatnot, but I also believe it is kind of the literal "end" of the cycle.

Because we've been following her perspective and there are 3 other characters we have yet to see, it has me thinking that this session will not go totally as planned and that something catastrophic will happen that will result in them not being able to play the game in the way it's intended.

I just feel in my bones that this session will not play as normal, because if it did, that's a good thing for both Dirk and Rose, but mostly Dirk. I think something bad will happen that will make playing it seem like a terrible idea. I also just have this theory that while the whole theme of Homestuck is that there are horrible cycles of abuse, the newer characters we have are being set up to break those cycles for themselves by playing the game.

I have this theory that the four Earth C kids, and the kids on Deltritus, are going to be playing the game in a way that doesn't satisfy the adults who made them play it in the first place, so that way it's still played but on their terms and stuff.

Honestly at this point I think if squiddleloop theory is true, it will only be in the sense that it's what Dirk wants to happen, since creating an endless loop that leads back into the troll session would keep him relevant and the perpetual recurrence going forever, and the actual events of the session will be about that failing

@archivalAngel I think so too. I cannot see the session playing in the way Dirk wants it to happen, and that the end results won't be satisfactory for him. A lot of the newer characters we got seem to go against the grain of the older characters, there is a stark theme of rebellion in all of them that just makes this whole plan of his fall apart. I mean, even at their core the Earth C kids all went against the better wishes of their parents/guardians, or they're nothing like the people who raised them at all lol.

All of the beta kids were essentially being raised with the idea that they'd one day play the game, and the Earth C kids were raised by the victors of said game. The only real difference is that the Earth C kids are very aware of the nature of the game itself where as the Beta kids went in totally blind to all of that. There is also just the fact that the beta kids didn't really get to choose whether or not they played this game as it was something that was "always meant to happen" since this is a loop and stuff. But the Earth C kids are an anomaly, they are the first kids who got to 'choose' all on their own. And I think that personal choice of theirs is what will spell the end of this cycle.

Which, if you're Dirk Strider is indeed very bad news lol.

There's also just a whole bunch of other stuff, like the fact that Dirk couldn't see what was happening in the Candy universe at all. He had no idea about what was going in there until very recently and he knows about Yiffy, and a piece of that universe that is full of nothing but chaos and disorder just breached containment and is COMING STRAIGHT FOR HIM.

You two have pretty much solved it I think. Breaking the loop Dirk is trying to set up seems to be exactly what the other characters are going for in order to defeat him. I didn't consider Ly'lac's role before, though. It'd certainly be pretty interesting.

Maybe her arc will have to do with her letting go of the old things she has that hold her down, creating a parallel to the story being about moving on from canon. But idk it's 3 AM I might be spewing nonsense here.

And that's about it.
