Hey! I've been thinking of starting my own Homestuck fansite for a while and I think I'm going to start planning out its contents. Do you guys have any suggestions for simple resources and tools I could make? (Not everything will be accepted, as I'm still learning, but it might be fun to try!)

I cannot possibly recommend Neocities enough. It's free and has an easy-to-use interface. Even if you have absolutely no knowledge of HTML or CSS, they have tutorials that make it extremely easy.

Another thing I recommend, regardless of what hosting solution your shrine is on, is looking up stuff that other people did and copying it. This is how I figured out a lot of CSS and more advanced HTML stuff. This can be especially helpful if you want to do unique things with the visual layout.

As for like, what to put on there, I don't know what you've planned out and you may already have an idea of what you want it to look like, but like, the basics are a good place to start, character bios and summaries, fanworks or essays about the story, maybe like sprite rips or screenshot galleries if you want to provide some resources to the community.

RE: @confoundingTypistry

I'm not sure yet? It kind of depends on what has the most appeal right now, and that's kind of everything. I can definitely go all around with the contents, but I don't think that's optimal and is basically what Homestuck.net is already doing. I'd personally love to make a wiki site or some sort of information hub, but setting up the backend is a little intimidating and I don't have the time for it. Beyond that, maybe some sort of hub for web graphics resources and tutorials for making stuff like that, but it'd have to be a collaborative effort and I'd need permissions from all sorts of artists to round out the selection. I was thinking of just making an archive of a bunch of miscellaneous resources similar to nepeta.mozai.com, but I don't think I could really fill it up alone.

Maybe asking around with people who would be willing to contribute in exchange for me keeping the costs up is a good idea...

I highly recommend Feasting’s Ministrife pixelings (https://feastings-old.tumblr.com/tagged/pixelings) and Cairovercoat’s background tiles (https://cairovercoat.tumblr.com/post/49741463009/you-can-browse-through-all-of-them-online) as decorative details!

I definitely agree with Neocities being a good option, know I know Nekoweb exists too. I personally have a predominantly Homestuck fansite and an exclusively auspisticism themed site both on Neocities. I pay money to host multiple sites on the same account.

I highly recommend learning some Javascript after getting HTML and CSS down, as that expands what you can do a lot.

RE: @visionaryParacosmos

Ooh, I have a collection of all of the pixelings saved on my computer! I couldn't find this blog archive though, I ripped them from the ship wall maker on nepeta.mozai.com instead. I was thinking of making a ship gif generator using them, but figuring out ImageMagick with no prior JS experience has not been very forgiving.

Also, I pay for Nekoweb already. I have my own website on there, I just want to make one that's specifically for Homestuck stuff. Please don't recommend me basic resources, I've been already learning CSS and HTML for 2 years.
