Migrating the Homestuck Wiki?

@shelbybunny oh absolutely, like with where lobbyists want things to head, we won't even have June Egbert on a wiki page, if those bastards get their way because trans people are deemed as inherently "sexual" and thus "adult themed." Roxy's transness scrubbed too and lgbtq relationships/dynamics as a whole. Fandom is already suspicious with it's scrubbing of what it's company moderators deem to be "adult content," we need to migrate this stuff.

@cubecrow maybe someone should reach out to those folks and be like hey, how does this all work? Preserving this stuff feels pretty important especially with how confusing Homestuck gets.

Is homestuck wiki even still regularly maintained that much? Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention but every time I've glanced at it it doesn't seem to get a lot of updates (at least not as frequently as other wikis I've edited for) and the amount of documentation on anything post-comic and ESPECIALLY Beyond Canon is kind of lacking

That said I agree more wikis should be migrating from fandom if they can, I just think it will be difficult if there isn't really active editors to sustain it

@rollypollypal I mean it'd be good to in the very least archive/migrate all the current stuff over and hell, I'd be down to help with updating/checking the HSBC & epilogues stuff at least. This is my special interest. I also know a bit of HTML, server-side data entry, CSS, and Javascript too if that's of any use (got a degree relating to that stuff). I just feel like preserving this stuff is super important, especially for a series as vast as Homestuck and it's sequels/side series. That's YEARS of knowledge written down, curated, edited, etc. Could all be wiped out at the whim of some big wig over at Fandom who thinks Homestuck (in our age of corpos pushing for censorship) as a whole is too "adult" or "mature" to be on their servers anymore.

i was thinking w/ this forum and the slight rebirth of wider homestuck fandom collaboration as a whole its prime time to migrate & update the wiki . i wonder if we could host it using the same thing the deltarune wiki (deltarune.wiki) is using ? im not too sure what theyre using exactly but it works like a charm . worth looking in2

@confoundingtypistry thus why I mentioned official or unofficial efforts, I'm sure HICU and/or FRAF people all got their own shit going on, it's high time we migrate away from Fandom as a company and their scummy overreaching censorship practices & probably time to do it SOON given everything going on. They've been itching for a chance to take down some server costs I'm sure and if a series so much as has a "female presenting nipple" or the word "fuck" in it I can see them Thanos snapping it into oblivion to "save on costs." We should probably look into a wiki source that easily let's you download the data in a compressed form of some sort and can be hypothetically easily dug through in case the new wiki service ever runs into problems.

Idk if the Deltarune wiki folks got any tips on this shit, but someone whose not afraid to get spoiled should maybe go ask? I'm keeping my beyond chapter 1 spoiler-free virgin eyes away from anything past the jester devil guy at present.

so... i had to join a discord server to ask them a question (welcome to 2025, i guess) and they advised me (AKA us) that we should look into miraheze or wiki.gg

ive had... SOME experience w/ miraheze but i think wiki.gg is worth looking into? they both do require filling out a form to be able to start a wiki FWIW.

i know when the fear and hunger wiki moved from fandom they used wiki.gg and i see a few indie wikis use that, seems p good

RollyPollyPal has a point, last I checked the Homestuck wiki was so inactive people started editing in misinformation on the trivia sections. Not only that, but I'm not sure if that can be done in the fanbase's current state if I'm being honest. Homestuck's fanbase is far from what it was 14 years ago to the point where we don't even have a proper phone app port because there aren't many people available for the task. Not to mention the ones who can qualify are more than likely busy. It's a pretty daunting task to migrate and an even bigger feat to maintain it. You have to find people who are willing to commit to such a thing. :V

As the others pointed out, Miraheze is the best option here.

shit if there's no alternative, I might just. make my own on carrd or something :P

@anomalicabyss it's also a matter of we need admins we can contact who are willing to help contribute to a migration. we could theoretically reimport every page manually but there's usually automated processes for this sort of thing. It'd be a monstrous task if we didn't have an admin actually on board to help out.

^ Exactly. That's more or less what I meant. It was kind of late when I wrote this and an editing button has yet to be implemented.... Unless it has and I'm missing something. Ah well.

I‘m personally willing to help as a regular editor for maintaining and updating the wiki as soon as it’s moved off Fandom.
