anyways, i wish people would pitch it up more. its crazy looking back and realizing how much davekat was shipped as a pitch ship and then people only shipping it redrom after a certain point. i love davekat of all quadrants, but i would love more pitchshippers. oh well, must be the change you wanna see in the world.

I used to think the Davekat girlies were delusional but then I became one. I was a Johnkat shipper who thought that they'd be endgame so I was actually the more delusional one. Anyways I just think they're pretty neat :3

I have no idea why Davekat became so disliked. When I reread Homestuck late last year, I was pretty much stunned by how immediate the chemistry between them is. Even the limited hostility between them in Act 5 Act 2 feels pretty gay, in retrospect. I feel like maybe some people dislike it because they were (perhaps understandably) invested in the knights ending up with Terezi or Jade or John. But idk. First crushes and relationships don't always work out. Sometimes it's the person you didn't expect, right?

i wanna say a huge part of it is that it's a very popular ship, and popular ship immediately means bad to a certain subset of people (especially a gay one, istg i've seen at least one person call it misogyny to prefer davekat to rosemary (probably bc they're used to like, supernatural? and shit, where two generic dudes are shipped while the women in the cast go completely ignored (which really isn't the case for hs in my experience)); and to that i say why pit two bad bitches (good ships) against each other)

anyway, good ship, 10/10 idiots in love, ideal state is them walking down the isle still not realizing they're in love

It's a shame they didn't really get to talk much until they met on the meteor because Karkat was maccing on John and Terezi on Dave.

RE: why was davekat so disliked

a large part of it was that homestuck has built up some relationships for both characters only to tear them down later (big one: karezi), and a lot of fans felt like davekat was a "lackluster replacement" for those ships. part of the davekat hatred is rolled in with the general dislike of the retcon/ending, a lot of people believe that homestuck "was meant to have a different ending" or was underbaked at its end, and see davekat as a consequence of this "mistake".

really what happened is terezi and karkat's relationship had a lot of ship teasing and build up, and davekat never had any explicit flirting scenes or anything. that's kind of the whole point, davekat are just two dudes who like hanging out with each other which in reality is a way better foundation for a stable and healthy relationship than messy bickering of two thirteen year olds who don't know how to navigate a romance. really homestuck as a whole kind of makes the thematic statement that the best relationships are ones that happen in the background, are based in two people just kind of enjoying each other's company and whose romance doesn't exist for the reader's voyeuristic pleasure (like arasol, callieroxy for example...). a lot of people missed this point and thought davekat was just bad writing.

so most davekat hate really boils down to either hating the ending as a whole, or people who thought the straight relationships that were teased in the beginning were actually meant to be endgame and weren't there basically for the sole purpose of deconstructing them.

btw i was a davekat fan before i even read homestuck. i knew i would love davekat because they perfectly fulfill a ship dynamic that i already have a long history of enjoying (emotional angry character x calmer kind of annoying character). i was always meant to be a davekatter
