OC typing quirks

my trollsonaa ,, aamara colazh (typed w/o quirk) haas aa quirk with double aa's .. i aalso double her punctuaation aand double spaace after punctuaation .. i would consider double spaacing aas aapaart of the quirk if double spaacing didnt straain my eyes extremely baadly.

typing quirks are hard, but you can get creative! if theres a certain social media site your troll uses? base it off the formating! is your character a poet? maybe they only use a certain amount of syllables and speak a certain way! making a typing quirk will often require making some tweaks to your character so that everything connects together.

typing quirks are literally my least favworite part of making fantrolls i lovwe making trolls and vwriting entire stories about them but i haaaate havwing to think of a quirk. i feel like theyre vwery difficult to get right because on one hand if you prioritize readability there usually arent many options since simple numbers replacing letters was already mostly used by homestuck and evwen vwith that a lot of people find mitunas quirk unreadable for example. but if you avwoid kinda copying the canon ones and lean into your owvn thing it usually ends up in a bunch of symbols that barely register as spelling something vwhich is so hard sometimes evwen vwhen the replacement makes sense. like i lovwe vwast error and this is in no vway a dig at them but i legitimately havwe trouble reading evwen some more simple quirks like taz and murrits because the + and # just dont register as a t or h naturally to me.

point being though quirks are really hard to do right and only three of my 10 fantrolls evwen havwe them for that reason. one of them is barely evwen a quirk imo she just types properly and Capitalizes words she deems Important for Emphasis. i vwish i had better advwice for you but at the end of the day at least youre not alone in the struggle LMAO

my main trollsona replaces "e" with "ǯ" which, lemme tell you, sucks on mobile phone keyboards because it involves a lot of copy and pasting.

the troll im rping as at the moment is a purpleblood mime who has taken an oath of silence, so they aren't allowed to speak, make sounds, or type/write words at all. they gotta make do by using emojis and unicode symbols to make pictograms and hope the person reading it can interpret it properly. its a little exhausting but its really funny and satisfying when i can convey tricky concepts via emojis n shit.

i also had an idea for a highblood rainbow drinker* who types and speaks exclusively in bars reminiscent of dracula flow, which would probably push me to my creative limits. might make them a purpleblood too just so i can call it "honkula flow".

yeah sometimes a typing quirk either comes really easily or just gets tossed to the wayside and hobbled together at the last second

the easiest ones I've thought of are ones that incorporated the fantrolls symbol somehow, like my boy Doxren who's symbol is literally a soundwave so he talks (((with everything surrounded in sound like this)))

or my other boy cavvex where his symbol kinda looks like a Z and 7 mashed together so he types in all lowercase, only capitalizing Z's or replaces T's with 7's

then my main girl sartie was kinda one of the wayside ones, her symbol wasn't the best to work with so I went more based on her lusus which is mostly a wolf, so anytime she types a K its followed immediately by a 9

my original main fantroll typed with his o's elongated. in this so~rt o~f fashio~n. another one i had replaced his E's with the Greek letter Ξ, WHICH WAS A PAIN TO DO ON MOBILΞ.

also back on MSPARP (gog, remember that???), whenever i roleplayed as my MLP OC, her typing quirk was to add an n after every c. the phrase "unicnorn scnientists" is permanently seared into my brain now because of it.

one of my super old fantrolls replaces t's with 𓋼 < this little mushroom and did emotes with her horns with a backwards 3. , i dont remember the rest though

I've been having mine turn his sentences into trains like this: /(Hello)-(there)-(i)-(will)-(kindly)-(ask)-(you)-(to)-(get)-(the)-(fuck)-(off)-(my)-(property)£
with each word representing a new train cart
and obviously the front and back being different!

I have really, really simple typing quirks. Like I just have one guy Talk in italics all the time and another guy w h o s p a c e s o u t e v e r y c h a r a c t e r , and a troll that just ends off her messages with "- XOXO."

I don't really use the typing quirks because I never write anything that would necessitate that rip. I just draw them instead.

ok so the spacing off every character guy double-spaces between each word but it didnt really end up clear in my prev message, it looks like it got rid of my double space? that's weird but oh well. that was my intention

Here's what I consider to be a neat (and hopefully helpful) example typing quirks from two of my trolls:

(A bit of context: Phosza is essentially a ghost who has taken over control of Tirias' eyes, and speaks to him in his head. Their typing quirks are meant to reflect this dynamic.)

Tirias: he types l_ke th_s. essent_ally, he replaces all _nstances 0f the letter "I" (b0th cap_tal_zed and l0wercase) w_th an undersc0re, and all _nstances 0f the letter "O" w_th the number 0

Phosza: He types liike thiis. Iit's a very siimple doubliing of the letter "I". Iif II'm remembering correctly, he also occasiionally ends hiis messages wiith audiio fiiles so that he can "speak".

Phosza has some level of remaining psionic power that allows him limited interaction with the world, and in the case of typing quirks, he uses it to operate his own Trollian/Chittr account.

It appears I've grown rather rusty in my time away from my fantrolls haha. Please disregard any inconsistencies in their quirks!

:o) -> my trollsona types like this! he always puts three ccc's when typing, and when theres an " 8 " sound, he puts the letter 8!

I loooove inventing quirks! My favorite kind are the ones that you can't use one of those "auto quirks" websites, I love being creative when it comes to quirks. The main oc I use "<3ry m>ch q>irks lik3 this, so that wh3n I typ3 o>t c3rtain words, th3y mak3 a littl3 h3art", another favorite is "This one, who is a character where every {8} eight words, he denotes it with a little {8} symbol with the number". Unfortunately I don't really have a trollsona (Im just not the kind of person to make one) so I can't say which one is "mine" but I default to the heart quirk if pressed for one.

Feikso (the troll in my signature)

the "ⓞ" are supposed to be bells, since she collects them and has them tied to her horns,,

her quirk is a pain to type though.. since it uses two custom symbols that arent on keyboards normally

(quirk builder site totally saves my life when playing her-)

I was kind of lazier with hers, but the "ᡕᠵデ气亠 -->" is inspired from Equius' typing quirk as her weapon, and the double "pp" is because she has a stutter-

My goldblood's is super simple. All his sentences have greater than and less than signs and he keeps his sentences enclosed in brackets! He also starts every sentence in caps!

- example: < [ WHICH biggie bag? ] >

I have made a full set of 12 trolls, with quirks. most of them aren't very good, either simple letter replacements (such as u's for o's) or i end up making them way to complicated where every letter is replaced by some symbol. thre are a few I'm proud of, though.

Zhere's one Zha7 uses of sevens for T's and replaces a C, 7, or S followed by an h wiZh a 'ZH',

and one that finds any combination of three letters that could have an equivalent in algebraic chess notation and replaces it with such. the color of the pieces is random, which ideally leads to a 50/50 balance. B is bishop, N is knight, K is king, ect.

I have a troll oc that types in all caps and replaces letters with the parts of the quadrant symbols! Example, E = 3, C = <, B = 8, O = o, and makes emoticons with :<,, put it all together? <3, <>, <3<, and o8< !!!

I \ove making tro\\s and giving them typing quirks is ha\f the fun imo :D

My tro\\sona, C\over Sugref, rep\aces every L with \ and ends a\most every message with an emoticon :p Not the most intricate but the don't have to be :>

i havent properly made a sona yet and i will EVENTUALLY .... but i do alr have a typing quirk in mind :3c seeing as how i dont have a sona tho it kinda js ended up being. my typing style .... its based around replacing letters with numbers, but not in a leetspeak way, more in a flip-phone typing way. for = 4, to/too = 2, etc.... but where it can get a little unreadable is when its used inside of words, like a certain arachnid girl.... it makes typing more fun, imo :3c
