Opinions on Viv being the lead for HS animated?

i feel like ppl would be more accepting of the animated pilot if it wasn't under spindlehorse and was instead like. glitch. honestly homestuck to me is like house of leaves where like. you kind of can't adapt it to any other medium than Interactive Webcomic. they tried with the books, they kind of failed (still interesting tho..) so i genuinely wanna see how they'll try with the animated series.

She's not.

she's an executive producer, which in this case, seems to mean "the one who owns the studio". i doubt she has much direct involvement.

I'm very happy about it, and I ain't gonna pretend I'm not. There are two outfits currently crushing it at indie animation: Glitch and Spindlehorse. (I'm guessing Spindleroo will be a home for projects not written by Vivzie.) I'm a big fan of Helluva Boss, and while I doubt they'll go as far as that show does, I also don't think they'll turn Homestuck into something sae and bland. Plus, they have a ton of 2 animation talent and experience to draw on.

There is a pattern whereby all you need to be Public Enemy Number One in geek culture is to be a woman who really, really doesn't mince her words. It was Anita Sarkesian a few years ago; no it's Vivinne Medrano's turn. Come on, nerds, we're better than this.

First, Viv is only the producer, it's been confirmed multiple times that she's not involved in the project, she's simply given them free rein and money to do whatever they want.

Second, I already suspected this given the fact that you haven't bothered to inform yourself that she's not involved, but the "Viv sucks" thing only shows your prejudices and biases, especially considering she's in charge of two shows that are basically hits and her animation studio is the only one that's on equal footing with Glitch.

Honestly, I don't think anyone other than her would be crazy enough to give Homestuck a chance as an animation and give them free rein to do whatever they want.

And if you're talking about "Viv is a bad person," please grow up and learn to separate the work from the author, or do you really expect to be "friends" with all the artists you follow?

Not to say you really shouldn't trust the rumors haters spread online; they're known for shamelessly lying and exaggerating...

Personally, as long as Viv hasn't done anything illegal or done any real harm to real people or used her money to support policies that hurt others, I don't care what she's like in her personal life, because we'll literally never meet her in person lol

Setting aside Viv being one of three executive producers, and what that actually means for the production, I *do* wanna push back on a Glitch-made animated series. Glitch's production model relies on releasing lots of smaller shows with lower overhead, and turning a profit predominantly from merch sales. This's why they can sort of get away with just posting the first episodes of their series as "pilots". Spindlehorse is probably the only studio with the right connections and manpower to actually handle a long running series like Homestuck, that wouldn't also have an S&P department trying to kick its knees in.
