This, I fully agree with. And like I said in my own thread, take what you read with a grain of salt until more information comes out from different parties. Please try to think critically about this whole shebang.

I second this, even as someone who does not like Hussie at all. This document is a bit shady. And Gio themselves seems to be a rather odd person. People should read it, wait for some sort of rebuttal from Hussie / Homestuck Team and go from there, really glad to know this forum will stay up. Hope this all gets solved soon without too much strife.

Being intimately familiar with other instances of this happening nothing in either of Gio's articles reads as outright wrong or suspicious to me. It tracks with what I've previously seen

i irrationally posted in a private discord server with 3 people who don't know what i'm talking about. this is what everyone should do. i'm just confused right now

This kind of stuff has been going on for years. Did people just forget about the official response to the Sarah Z video? I was hopeful the HICU was a step in the right direction but apparently not.

You could wait to see if Homestuck contradicts anything in Gio's transcripts before worrying about whether they're fabricated, lest you wind up accusing someone you don't know of bald-faced lying without evidence. When this has happened before (ahem, emails,) all parties have wound up agreeing on all the facts and differed in interpretation. I think Gio is also too smart to post records he knew could be immediately and trivially contradicted; otherwise he has some big honking brass balls on him and wants to pick a losing fight for no reason.

while you are correct on how NDAs CAN be used maliciously, that is not what's happening in this situation at all. In this case an NDA is being used by an organization (the HICU) to come to a legal agreement with the owners of the Unofficial Homestuck Collection to give them permission to use copyrighted work with guidelines put in place, the UHC didn't want to follow these guidelines so they stalled until the HICU was backed into a corner. No matter how much work they put into the archive it is still directly Andrew's work being used without permission. They are using copyrighted work, you can't just do that without the rights. The Homestuck Independent Creative Union tried to give them the rights and they refused the conditions, so there was nothing to do but send a cease and desist. The NDA was not malicious in any way.

there's always the option of doing what they were doing before, which was just leaving it the fuck alone. that's an option too. you don't always have to wield your trademark and copyright like a sword.

They... weren't doing that at all? The HICU saw that someone was using Hussie's copyrighted material without permission and offered to keep it running under guidelines. I really don't see the issue with that.

I'm sorry. If I'm being honest I'm just trying to seem more professional and have the benefit of the doubt on why Hussie is acting like this. I don't really see anyone's perspective and I'm just confused on who I should believe. When I told my parental figure about the situation because I was so flabbergasted, she went on this whole spiel about how this is how law works and I just kinda took her side and relayed it on here. most of this is just confusion and spiraling and I'm sorry if i've offended or hurt anyone with my accusatory words.
