in the pilot and the pilot trailer you see this shot of karkat
to explain: this is inside karkat's hive (oddly for some reason its the weird early version of his hive but that doesnt really matter) and oustide you can see alternia, from the green and pink moons
but we also see his lusus here in sprite form (as it was in the original panel this is based on which implies that this is after karkat entering the game , or possibly sometime during his entry process
i dont think they intentionally meant to set this during his entry process but im still taking that into consideration which means
1) they just forgot and its a slight timeline inconsistency
or 2) karkat randomly took a break to aurafarm while entering the game
this is a small nitpick and it doesnt really bother me that much but i just felt like pointing it out
The kernelsprite only turns into a full sprite after entering the Medium, so yes, this image is impossible.
I speculated in another thread that the reason we don't see this room ever again is because it's actually one of the ones Terezi adds on to Karkat's hive over the course of the game, which fits with it being clearly post-entry and being empty + light grey. But I myself never thought of that until that post, so it's not really a surprise that the animators thought of it as an alt version of Karkat's respiteblock, and thus drew him "hanging out" in it on Alternia. But yeah lol

It is inconsistent, but I‘m completely certain that it is intentional. the color of his room combined with the sprite, it’s is absolutely a reference to the original image of karkat from the end of the intermission. I don’t like to speak in absolutes, but there’s just no way that’s not intentional.

In fact, in the original panel, the clouds outside Karkat's window are purple, which match the clouds in LOPAH. The clouds in the animation are dark red, like the ones above Karkat's hive on Alternia.
What I mean is, the question seems to be about the timeline, and I don’t think that was even a consideration. The white room and sprite are because of the panel from the end of the intermission, and alternia is is outside simply because they wanted to show Alternia. Meaning: i think it’s just meant to look cool, and has no bearing on the timeline.

Them referencing that panel has nothing to do with the timeline error, though... that's in addition to the obvious reference to the panel. Imo, they interpreted that panel in a way that is technically impossible, due to an easy assumption to make.
Like if you want to show Alternia's moons to tease "this guy is on an alien world" why intentionally draw that one specific panel lol ... was the juxtaposition with Spades Slick that important? Maybe it was? But like if you're going to change the panel to focus on different things, why not change it further? Why include the cruxite? It would just be such a weird thing to do on purpose...
