Question about Friendsim 2

Looks like they're not part of FRAF anymore. I'm not going to speculate on any reasons beyond those given, but they shouldn't have just outright made the threads for it unavailable. Wait to do stuff like this until you have a place to archive all the posts, people!

Huh. Well, that doesn't seem all that bad, but i do wish there'd been an announcement on FRAF about the board being removed.

Anyway, I guess I'll wait 'till a mod sees this to see if they can help move my live read thread (https://www.fruityrumpus.com/forums/t/blueberrys-friendsim-2-live-read) to somewhere where it's like, actually accessible, bc i still would like to share my thoughts here on the game as I play through it.

It's becoming increasingly clear to me that I'm not sure I can ever know how good or bad something actually is here.

Well... unless Jonaya Riley has also stopped being the producer on Hiveswap Act 3 I'm gonna assume there's no bad blood? lol
I suppose we'll see at SAHcon, given she was there i think the last two years news was shown? or maybe just last year, not sure

the announcement seems pretty amicable and chill to me? there were no plans for merch or anything and there was concern that the different licensing between the game + fraf and the game + its artists would end up a confusing legal tangle. Everything is to remain as-is, just not with FRAF

I do agree there should be some archival or like auto thread moving or something but I’m sure that’s on the docket. They probably didn’t plan for something like this happening so right out the gate yaknow

Oh hey! Just saw this, yeah Jonaya requested I unlist Friendsim 2 from the front page and forum. I might ask her quick before moving the threads within it, but I can probably move those to just the FRAF board for now (it will auto bump them all though which is kind of annoying).

I'd like to reassure quickly that this wasn't done on bad terms and it wasn't us booting Jonaya out or anything. The reasons she outlined on the website are the same ones she gave me and all in all she was super chill about it.

Reading the announcement, it makes sense to me. It's too bad that the threads have to get shifted, but I definitely understand why Friendsim 2 would opt to keep its legal stuff as simple as possible- Especially considering recent events, I can see how it might make sense to withdraw from FRAF on good terms.

@lyrichartwell Jonaya DID stop being producer on Act 3. She's moving away from Homestuck entirely, just rolling things out in as smooth and professional a manner as possible. Again, not speculating reasons that she doesn't or can't give.

Hm. that does actually give me some pause. But, as said, we really shouldn't speculate. I just hope Jonaya is doing okay, she's done a lot for the fandom.

Hey, I don't really go here much but I do wanna clear this up:

I had some concerns about how the FRAF licensing situation played specifically with Friendsim 2's licensing and TOS with our artists. We have a lot of artists who were paid for their work out of my own pocket, so I have a variety of contracts with them and I don't have the bandwidth or resources to really sort all of that out with all of the people involved and make sure it's all compatible with our EULA for our assets. Since I had no plans to utilize the FRAF agreement for merch, I figured it would be simpler to withdraw from the FRAF amicably. I have no hard feelings towards anyone who's still involved with FRAF, just was becoming something I wasn't comfortable with for Friendsim 2 specifically.

My stepping down as an Act 3 producer was unrelated. I've been moving away from Homestuck stuff for a variety of work/life/other creative projects reasons for a while now so that was logically part of that.

Both of these things were at my own discretion and weren't discussed in advance with HICU/FRAF people. If folks have additional questions about the implications for Friendsim 2, they're free to message one of our official accounts since those filter through to me. Tumblr is probably the one I'll see most quickly, tbh.
