I've recently had a bit of a reinspiration to do a bunch of creative work (damn you Toby Fox for making such a good game) after a like, really bad time of trying to do various things relating to it (drawing and guitar) throughout High School due to A lot of stuff.
Anyway what I wanted to ask is what do a lot of people here use to do that flashy aliased art style and also just what they use in general to make MSPFAs and etc!
I doubt I'll be doing any of this type of stuff soon as I'm kinda starting from ground one when it comes to art and like, back to lvl 1 with Music as I do not want to be doing guitar for a while and trying out piano as soon as possible (Damn you Toby) but I wanna practice with these things just to see how they are and if I like them

disclaimer: i dont have an mspfa of my own released (yet) but ive been doing some research on some of these things for my own practice, so take this with a grain of salt ahaha
afaik lots of people just use a standard drawing program with a pixel brush to achieve the art style. ive heard that many use photoshop but clip studio is just as good. for still panels and simple gifs, what program you use hardly matters since you only rly need a standard pixel brush, but i cant say anything for actual flashes/animations since im not really sure how to do those yet either
for more technical things you can also check out this portion of the homestuck resource site, its got stuff that may be helpful like editing tutorials and such: https://homestuck.net/resources/other.html
personally i use aseprite for mspa-style art, which has yielded a lot of good results (i've attached some art i finished up yesterday for an example.) i've also heard clip studio paint is pretty decent, though i prefer aseprite since its built for pixel art and therefore everything is alised by default, which im not sure about in the case of csp.
https://www.homestuck.net/resources/booru/ also has a ton of handy guides to the art style overall, and theres a channel dedicated to it on the mspfa discord, so i'd reccomend checking those out too.
re: @jimmycarter (hilarious tag btw)@helmsman
Oh sweet as, I recently copped Aseprite cause I was given a steam gift card and had no clue what to get and with all the wplace stuff happening I used it do so some practice and really enjoyed it, cool to see that it can be used for that style of art (tbh thought it could only rly do smaller bits of pixel art)!!
I do also have CSP, I forgot when i got it but it mustve been like 7 years ago and a small drawing tablet, might also be a good time to dust those out and just start messing around with either of these pieces of software.
Also these resources seem super handy, gonna need more hands for how handy they are but it'll be good to ponder over and whatnot

Personally, I use firealpaca. It does aliased stuff really well, and it has good pen pressure application! It's also free so you don't need to worry about shelling out for it. It also has a weird but effective method of animation if you need that.
Clipstudio paint is very powerful and does work (very well even!), but personally I find it to be too powerful for standard use. Like, if I need to use some of its specific features, I'll crack it open, but most of the time, it tends to overwhelm me.

(aough where is the bb code editor on this thing)
@lavendersiren
Firealpaca is a cool software name, will look into that as well but yeah from what I can tell just starting out I wanna use some more simpler stuff like Aseprite and what you are recommending cause while the very little time I've done drawing on Clip Studio Paint (while I was just barely starting out) I just kinda get swamped by so many good options and kinda puts in choice paralysis.
Also I recently found the cables and whatnot of the tablet I have, turns out I had a Wacom Cintiq 16 tablet which seems to be in really good condition outside of a really small nick on the screen that probably happened due to moving houses, so pretty happy about that working still, def keen to start messing around with drawing again after feeling very disheartened to do it for like, 6 years lmfao

lately ive been playing around with photopea cuz it's free and you dont need to download anything
i personally use an old copy of photoshop, but any drawing program with an aliased (pixel) brush is good enough if you know how to use it well. i've seen it done extremely well with firealpaca, paint tool sai (especially this one, shoutout toreodere), medibang, clip studio, gimp, etc etc etc. even ms paint once or twice!
having a good drawing software does help you out a lot, but you should put technique and comfort at the top of your list when going for that sort of style & MSPFAs.
Give me freedom, give me fire. Give me BBCode or I retire!
(i don't have an mspfa either, but i have drawn homestuck style artwork in the past so take this as you will) i use krita with a custom brush. i believe burning down the house's site has the tutorial i used for said custom brush? krita's free too so

TBH I think I worded the topic a little bit specific, I'm kind of just open to see what a bunch of people r doing when it comes to drawing and whatnot in the homestuck spaces, rn I'm kinda curious on what is good for practicing cause as of rn im just kinda doing whatever comes to mind without real learning
