there has obviously been a large issue with duplicate threads being made following the surge in activity that was brought to this forum after the 8th and 9th of this month.
from this point on any duplicate threads made about the most common, already tread upon topics are going to be locked and asked to move to an existing thread. while there is no functionality for us to merge them peacefully and this has caused leniency, it is becoming more difficult to moderate with the large volume of different threads to keep an eye on.
please use the report function for what you suspect to be duplicate threads, and/or discuss them here so that we may take quicker action.

Glad to see something on this, is there any specific things y'all are looking for when it comes to classifying what's a dupe vs something that is actually worth a new thread or is it just case-by-case for the moment?

it's mostly case-by-case. personally i know ive looked over every gio- or vivzie-related topic that has been posted, so i can cross reference and decide whether a new post is the same contents or transformative in some way.
some of the starter posts are pretty much the same but the content within the thread ends up entirely different. ideally we shouldn't let them start getting replies before moving them toward the original post, so i'm trying to take the OP into account more than the thread it creates.

maybe when post editing becomes a feature someone could make a thread directory for very common topics?

FYI: ive starting locking some of the older dupes around here that havent seen any posts for several days, and the army has been mobilized to lock dupes that come in past this point with a short list of common threads.

You can always try resolving duplicate threads right now by hopping into SQL and merging all of the posts into the earliest known thread, thus creating a gigantic mega-thread filled with every single post.
Since they're likely ordered by ID or date, this would make everyone's posts show up mixed together with one another's, resulting in a total clusterfuck of a 50+ page backlog. It may also cause major database issues.
But it would also be very funny.
