Samsung Messages is Being Discontinued

My phone keeps saying Samsung Messages is being discontinued (effective July 2026) and that I should switch to Google Messages, and I've skimmed a few articles and it does seem to not be in my best interest to continue using Samsung Messages for lack of features and security, but on the second point I DO NOT want to use Google Messages. I'm not the best at avoiding Google encroaching much of my digital life, but I want to avoid adding anything obviously unnecessary...what are alternative texting apps I could switch to?
