I've been told many things as someone who hasn't been active in the fandom in almost a decade. Still I've witnessed the rises and falls of drama from afar, -some I still know shit about- including the many ways in which Hussie has behaved over the course of their presence on the internet, old and new.
Reading Gio's blog, people's account of the Hussie and the man, and things I've witnessed as a fan, I don't think the Gio is lying. As always when it comes to clashes that delve into legality but also beyond, those that probably go into Two Big Egos Territory (no man's land for all others involved), it's not impossible that some details are set as more grandiose than they are, but...
What bothers me, reading the forums, is the amount of people piling up on this Gio dude with claims I've looked into and found no proof about, except for like, minor stuff and comments that don't compare to Hussie's in the past. So if we going to do that we going to do it for both. Of course prove me wrong and I'll take it back. However I would also propose the notion, which I suspect Sound and Reasonable, that claims of bigotry shouldn't impact the fucked up-ness of using legal and manipulation tactics against projects such as the UHC.
People genuinely stay at Hussie's boots like they've not shown themselves to be a (sorry, but...) bad, narcissistic person, who hates their fanbase and things derived from it. And I'm not speaking out of my ass but from the behaviors I saw first hand while I read homestuck, as a teen, when the comic still updated. And while I still enjoyed the community from afar, learned of what people have told and shown me, both first and second hand accounts.
Hussie is not a stable person. They have over and over being Quite Shit, gone overboard, mistreated their fanbase, shown genuine dislike for their own work which would be OK if it wasn't because they've dragged others into it. Part of their work in both Homestuck and Psycholonials (this second one has been relied by clever, analytic people who've read it, I didn't go beyond the first chapter) seems to revolve around Fanbases, their relationships to it, from what feels like a very personal point of view.
It's ok to be attached to HS, god knows I sure am! But the amount of people thinking Hussie isn't capable of at least PART of what's said in the post are being too kind to a person like them. Like, seeing Social Media right now (not that I'm too active on Twitter or it's derivates, sorry), people are agreeing to have had terrible first hands experiences with Hussie. None of this surprises me. I'm rather surprised so many people defend him.
I'm going to, of course take what Gio says with a grain of salt, as we all must do with information given by involved parties, but I'm not giving Hussie the benefit of the doubt. He's gotten too much of it already- and betrayed his fanbase with it.
P.D: used they/them for hussie to differentiate. I'm not aware of their current pronouns or if they have even talked about it.
