personally, for pixel art, i recommend aseprite a lot! homestuck sprites might be a little big, so photoshop is a good way to go. but i don't recommend ever giving adobe money for any reason. clip studio paint might be the move.
okay. thank you. ill look into clip studio paint. as ive heard good things about it in the past aswell.

it’s great, i love it. if you want EX rather than pro (great animation capabilities), unless you’re in dire straits to get it, i’d recommend waiting until their christmas sale to pick it up for half off! it’s a one time payment for either Pro or EX rather than subscription based.

asesprite is great. i don't recommend fire alpaca for animating or anything like that but for spriting its pretty decent. and its free. clip studio is good but i personally hate doing pixel art on there. the lines are pretty jaggy and difficult to control. my utmost TOP NUMBER 1 software for pixel art is Paint tool sai lol. Which is.... also "free". if you can find it lol.
but yeah fuck photoshop.

Just a little piece of advice, aseprite is free if you compile the program yourself from the repository, though you would have to recompile every time it updates, but it's fine if you can't pay for it.
I'm a person... Probably.
YOU THERE, YES YOU, LISTEN TO ME, PLEASE DON'T USE DISCORD LINKS FOR EMBEDS, THE LINK STOPS WORKING VERY FAST, USE A FILE HOSTING SERVICE LIKE file.garden!!!!!!!
yeah clip studio isnt exactly Made for spritework and can be a little awkward even if you do enable the grid but theres a metric ton of pixel brush assets you can download if you dont want to just copy default brush > turn anti-aliasing off lol. I havent used aesprite but i've only heard good things about it, but if you want to do other non-pixely things clip studio has that Versatility for ya. i guess its like a multitool that can do a lot of stuff well vs one specific tool that does that one thing REALLY well.
I forgot to mention. my signature. was made using a clip studio pixel brush but i did it in a rush so its not to the quality (or style for that matter) i'd use for hs sprites but it can probably give u an Idea
Photoshop is good for other art, but I use fireAlpaca specifically for sprites.
