Greetings and happy 4/13 to everyone. Given the auspiciousness of the day, not only as 4/13 but also the 10th anniversary of Act 7, I have decided to finally post something I've been sitting on for a while. Over the course of last summer, I researched and wrote a 52,000 word paper on the relationship between Homestuck and the Monomythic cycle, also known as the hero’s journey. This project was very rewarding for me and so I thought I should finally get around to sharing so that it doesn’t just sit around on my computer collecting dust forever.
Of course the final project is quite long (120-200 pages depending on line spacing), but if there were any fandom likely to have people interested in reading something like this, it would surely be this one. Don’t worry if you know nothing about the Monomyth, I wrote it for an audience that is familiar with Homestuck but not with the intricacies of the hero’s journey, and one of the purposes of the paper is to explain the actual stages and symbolism therein, which are extremely interesting and have deepened my understanding of not just Homestuck, but all stories, immensely.
