Hi wonderful fraf friends!

It's 5am and I have been struck by the sudden urge to create a super self indulgent forumventure, but I'm so completely new to this I'm not certain if I could/should

I'm not great at 2d art so am thinking about making it text based with some possibly heavily compressed images in a point and click style? But being honest I'm really uncertain beyond the bare desire to make something, I even have 2 main ideas that I'm kinda flip flopping between

I guess I'm just looking for some general advice and thoughts from the community I admire so much, v happy to elaborate more on what I have in mind

i don't know what exactly you're looking for advice for in specific, but that sounds like a blast. forum adventures are great for learning the ropes of what you're doing and what you want to do, creatively.

SHAPED OR MOLDED FORMS appear to have been formed from a plastic material through directly applied force.

ABSTRACT FORMS are of uncertain origin.

Alright so, when it comes to running a forumadventure, keep in mind that you're not always going to have commands being sent in. I highly suggest considering a "default" line of action in case you don't get any outside input.

When it comes to drawing stuff for a forumadventure, it helps to optimize your currently used drawing style for speed, potentially for expression too.

As for worries about your skills when it comes to drawing? that shouldn't be too much of an issue. Output flow is always going to be more important than technical skill, and over time your skills will improve with every panel that you draw anyways. Just try not to push the effort scope too far, or you will end up with a loooot of drawing overhead later on.

This sorta thing has happened to me. It sucks getting stuck because you've upgraded your in-use panel style to something that takes way longer than necessary.

Regarding potential worries about self indulgence, I say absolutely go for it. If you know what you want and you have the tools to pursue it, then you've got something worth looking forwards to at the end of the day. And a fun thing: sometimes when you put enough passion into something, that tends to pique the interest of potential readers.

Of course, marketing is everything (I suggest putting a link in your signature), so making sure that folks can find your adventure will be important.

Also, consider saving an archived version elsewhere if you manage to get past "the cradle threshold".

Note: on the original mspa forums, forum adventures always started in a subforum called "the cradle" and would be moved out only after 50 posts/panels or something like that. Nowadays this threshold is mostly used informally on mspfa to indicate when an adventure can be posted in the adventure review thread.

When it comes to saving your images, I highly suggest using filegarden if you don't already use it.

Never rely upon discord, because it will delete your image hotlinks sooner or later. Imgur doesn't like being used as active image storage anymore and photobucket is ass.
