A thread to talk everything hip hop! Share the music you love and the music you hate, dig into the lyricism and gossip about the news-as-of-late, push your personal projects -- put it all on the plate! #################### As a starter, here's 3 tracks I like: Mick Jenkins -- Wars and Rumors of War
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JHAumc-wjFE At the start of the year, Joey Bada$$ made a song called The Ruler's Back taking shots at (the conversation around) Kendrick Lamar post-beef and post-GNX, saying there'd been "too much West Coast dick lickin'" lately, asserting that Joey was going to correct things. Amid some heated LA responses, Mick (from Chicago) simply replied that Joey's track was not strong enough to support that kind of talk and threw out a very cool, very dense freestyle dismissing basically everybody involved in the beef and positioning himself as the real MVP -- the track succeeds where Joey failed, imo. "PLACEHOLDERS OUT HERE CLAIMING RULER, WE GOING YARD // FERRIS BEULLER GOT NO REGARD FOR THE NEW SCHOOL, I'M SO APPALLED" is a good summary. Ominous beat courtesy of Smino. JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown -- God Loves You

Goofy ass dirty talk from Danny on Peggy's otherwordly gospel beat. "IF YOU ON YOUR PERIOD, CALL ME MOSES -- CAUSE I'M ABOUT TO SPLIT THAT RED SEA" is precisely the kind of sacrilegious audacity I'm here for
DOECHII -- ALTER EGO (feat. JT)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tJkPh2vluFQ
Her radio hits this year have been more in the boom-bap and pop lanes, but I got introduced to Doechii rapping over this kickass house cut that dips into some 90's synths. Really precise control of the aggression dial: Doechii barks over shotgun blasts, JT delivers her contempt in a low drawl, and Doechii returns crooning over luxurious strings to assure you that this aggression is just her Alter Ego. And between verses the chorus taunts maniacally "NANANANANA BOOM BOOM BITCH YOU DEAD TO ME!!!". Good, good shit
Please ignore how I somehow fucked up the formatting on the opener, thanks
I love that JPEGMAFIA Danny Brown record, and that's definitely one of the best tracks from it. "Part that red sea" is probably the best line, but I also like the simple but effective "I'ma talk in tongues". Really every line from his verse is great. I've also been listening to a lot of clipping. lately. Their new album is really good.
Yeah, Scaring The Hoes is a great record. Peggy doesn't switch up his flow too much, so Danny's variety lets his beats shine in a way they rarely have the opportunity to -- and Peggy's verses end up as an almost calming reprive from whatever Danny was up to. The chemistry is really solid
Clipping hasn't landed for me historically, but I'll give em another shot. I respect Daveed Diggs even if I've yet to connect with him
