here's a link to the blog explaining it.. this shit is so sad. loved the UHC and i wish they couldve worked together...
This blows. Only way to read Homestuck is gone now. What the hell
also apparently hussie is just sitting on loads more commentary for homestuck and not releasing it. dude. PLEASE
my series is ran by a divorced 50 year old bro this is so heartbreaking
i dont get why hussie would screw over giovannh and bambosh like this, genuinely. literally all hussie had to do if they really did not want to do this was to just. Say "hey i dont think this cooperation is working out, lets just part ways and leave each other alone, i wont dmca yall or anything"
"Lalonde" - Even her name sounds like a wine brand.
okay apologies for the double post but @ms. celium theres mirror sites but i dont want to link them so youll have to go to the homestuck reddit for them

jesus, that was a rough read. throughout all of this i just felt bad for james because i know intimately what it's like to be in that position. yeesh.
you cant take anything gio says at face value. even as far back as 2019 he was stalking and harassing many members of the community under the guise of “journalism”?? if someone who has unrelentingly exhibited toxic behaviors to ur community, not to mention you personally, got involved with your work, how would you react? (gio wasn’t originally even involved with the unofficial collection as far as i remember it)

It's like Homestuck but during Antebellum slavery.
regardless, iirc Hussie had been promoting the UHC for like, quite some time now. Clearly Hussie liked the idea of it enough to promote it. Even if it boils down to Hussie just has beef with Gio, Hussie is still 45 years old and if they want a proper archive of the their own work they can do it themself instead of getting involved with an archive made by a person they dont like.
They were clearly trying to bury whatever hatchet there was between them, but it really baffles me how everyone kind of skates past the fact that... it's Hussie's work? Like "creating an archive of it" is in this case having a (great!) bootleg - if Hussie is trying to make a proper official one (I'm assuming that the official site is fucked up in part because of them having to work through VIZ to handle it) then yeah it makes sense for Hussie to offer the opportunity to be Official... or stop hosting it. "It" being... Hussie's comic. Everyone acts like the actual comic belongs to no one so Hussie isn't allowed to control it or it's copyright/distribution in any way. If this was any other fandom it wouldn't even be a question, and even now Hussie hasn't actually sent any C&D?
It's like saying if a manga author was working on a publication deal to get their work translated to english and distributed because their last one fell through, they saw an online rip and tried to reach out to work with them on that translation and have it made official since they appreciated the work, but was trying to make an official collection and hub for their work. But then whatever deal fell apart... the manga author is going to be in the right to tell them that they'll be going with someone else to manage it and that the rip translator will have to take theirs down. The English translation is labor that they were trying to value, but if they dont take the deal then that's that?
Everyone keeps going on about Hussie being a grown ass adult but they're in lalaland about ~Homestuck belongs to the fans!~, ignoring how licensing and publication, some of the BIGGEST and most serious parts of copyright and ownership, actually work T_T
Everyones also mad because they think Homestuck is going to be gone forever or something or their favorite fanwork is going to be C&D'd because of how much effort Gio puts into making his blog posts seem like they're widespread problems instead of him being impossible to work with. Like can we use our critical thinking.......?
Brought up Hussie's grown ass age because it's childish to me to allow certain fan things but only up to a certain point. You don't see this kind of thing happen normally in other spaces. The more i learn about whats even been going on in this space the last couple years while i haven't been paying attention the more weird i find all of this to even be. Never have i seen a creator hate their own fanbase as much as Hussie does, and then also seem to want to micromanage it regardless.
re: spicyyetti
yeah that's the sentiment i've seen going around, although i have reason to believe that hussie has not always acted the best in terms of stuff like this. i dunno, im kinda holding off on more judgment until more info is revealed.
re: alexis
Thank you! You're the only person I've seen bring this up so far. I don't understand why everyone has seemed to forget that A.H still made Homestuck, it's still their creation. Everyone has seemed to be so quick to crucify A.H for wanting some creative control over how THEIR COMIC is distributed. This drama is not even a day old and so many people have already jumped to take sides when we don't even know the extent of what actually occured.
i'm fujoshing out
