so, for a while i've been a fan of progressive rock and the many cool concept albums that have come from it, so naturally, i've been thinking about how to adapt Homestuck itself into this genre.
here is the text of a tumblr post i made on the subject yesterday:
idk how possible this is but it would be really cool to get a bunch of musicians together and make an actual concept album adaptation of homestuck.
it would be cool to have a track for each act, with them being of relative lengths to eachother similar to the acts.
if we have each page of HS be equivalent to one third of a second, the full album would be around 45 minutes, which is a pretty usual album length. this would make the track listing look something like this:
- Act 1 (1:22)
- Act 2 (2:50)
- Act 3 (2:08)
- Intermission (1:08)
- Act 4 (3:15)
- Act 5 (11:46)
- Act 6 (22:05)
- Act 7/Credits (0:01)
i would say combine acts 1 though 3 into one song, and combine the intermission with act 4 as one song.
as for how i think this hypothetical album would sound, i think the genre should be some kind of prog rock (although i may be biased since that is my favorite genre), that genre has commonly featured concept albums and long songs.
idk if the album would be entirely instrumental or not. depends on if we get singers and lyricists in the musician team.
i think acts 1-4 would use more usual rock instrumentation (guitars/bass, drums, keyboard), with maybe some jazz for the intermission. act 5 would have more synth/electronic instruments and an increase in odd time signatures and polymeters and stuff and add back in the usual stuff later for act 5 act 2. act 6 could be a fusion of even more different styles.
act 7 is just one second long so it could be like 1 chord that could resolve musical tension from the previous track but isnt just a perfect cadence and people can argue for 10 years over whether it was a satisfying conclusion or not. just like real homestuck!
