WHAT IS GOING ON

One of the co-creators of the Unofficial Homestuck Collection, Gio, recently released an article on his website accusing Hussie of very unprofessional behavior which led to Gio taking down his fork of the UHC. Try to take everything in that article with a grain of salt until more information comes out.

It really is. The UHC is still up, thankfully, but I feel like this whole thing kind of stinks a little. Gio's evidence of what was said is shown entirely through text recreations of Discord conversations, which is incredibly fishy.

Those are recreated screenshots? I thought they were actual ones yeah that's incredibly shady why not just post the actual screenshots there.

And in addition, his fork of the Unofficial Homestuck Collection has been made into this (https://homestuck.giovanh.com/unofficial-homestuck-collection/), which feels very... attention-seeking? Deliberately inflammatory in order to get people upset at Hussie, much like the title of his blog post being "The Unofficial Homestuck Collection Was Taken Down," not elaborating that he was the one who took it down in order to likely bait people who don't read the full article into believing that it was taken down by Hussie.

Yeah, it all does seem weird and fishy... I really do still have a lot of faith in the team, and even if some of what gio said is true (again, taking everything with a grain of salt) it all seems very deliberately dramatized to instigate drama. im definitely not pulling my support over this it all reads as weirdly personal?

This is the MO that's repeated with Sarah Z and with the Unofficial Homestuck Discord hijacking attempts (and you can read the emails about that in the server). It is somewhat personal because it's people smearing and attacking each other, sure, but that doesn't impact its factuality

There's definitely a hint of true to Gio's story. As the_enemy said, this isn't the first time we see thing happening. But, yeah, I definitely think Gio might be framing things in order to tarnish Hussie's or Homestuck's image or whatever. I remember the account he published of the story behind Hiveswap's development was also contested at the time, which shows the possibility that Gio might be unreliable in his accounts.

Much like with Hiveswap, though, I think this story might just end up inconclusive as I'm not sure how much the people working for Homestuck can really tell everything to the public. And I'm sure not all of it would benefit them, anyways. Personally, I'd hope for some more clarification on what exactly Hussie has been doing behind the scenes.

If telling the truth against someone 'lying' about you doesn't benefit you, then all it means is that what you're actually doing is somehow even worse.

It's an "everyone sucks" scenario. Hussie is the King of Trolls, and as a result some things they, and by extension some of the team, can't be taken at face value without realizing there is more going on that just isn't being said. Gio is just extrapolating intent where there isn't any from the fact that Hussie has been changing up the status quo to try to revitalize the older days of the community, (pre-antifans) and also get the community onboard with the potential animated relaunch. They have gone a bit too far with some of the attempts (see the Discord/Reddit fiasco) and have engaged in mild (repeat MILD) reputation laundering with the HICU which is actually pretty common with media properties, (cough Critical Role, cough, Hellaverse, cough D&D, cough MCU, cough.) Also, trying to rebuff further archival before a reboot is nothing new. DC Comics has done it almost every reboot of it's continuity. However, Gio is combining these things out of their cultural and media literacy contexts with his own personal experience since the Odd Gentleman situation and his own personal hatred of Hussie, a hatred that has left the ironic hatred that most Homestucks have of Hussie and looped around to sincere hatred.

Anyway, that's our take.
