If SBurb were to actually release, with or without the whole "creating a new universe" spiel would it actually manage to find ANY success in the modern gaming landscape??
(This question comes from sleep deprivation)
beware the warning!
I'm not sure... But I'm trying to make a SBURB Text Adventure Game right now, so I'll let you know if it's big! That is, if any of my Echoes can get through the Beta...
The Real Homestuck?
That's the friends we made along the way!

I feel like whether or not it blows up would serious depend on whether or not it was a creating a new universe thing. In both cases I know I'd play it. It'd definitely be unique in the indie scene I feels.
No, not enough of an advertising budget. Might actually find success in a similar vein to other friend based games like lethal company. since it basically is a 4 player roguelite.
id like to believe that it would work out but honestly it really depends on Who makes it i think. if its a bigger company or a successful indie developer i think so but otherwise it feels too niche :/
killian - she/it
I think it'd probably be an underground hit, but it's so strange and esoteric and reliant on tropes from games like The Sims that it would probably have a hard time garnering any mainstream popularity. I'd play it though.
Microsoft Paint's strongest soldier.
I mean even without creating a new universe I think the property damage lawsuits alone would bankrupt any company attempting to sell it. It would be a hell of an item to get your hands on if you could though so it would be certainly a game that gets remembered and isnt that what we need more then a commercial success.
My mind is no fortress! It is an open pasture ravaged by internecine conflict - and chicken
Building things, looting and killing stuff - the aesthetics as they are presented in the comic are very 00's, but the gameplay so&nds like something between Valheim and Fortnight, both of which are popular games (although one a couple orders of magnitude more than the other).
I think it depends on how many of the features from the game are there. If you can import the floorplan of you own living space, and the game can generate environment, quests and NPCs with big enough variation and relation to user input, then I think it would be hugely popular. Well-made-wacky works. User creativity sells. But you would need the full novel implementation of the game, not just a fascimile of the experience shown in the comic.
if sburb got popular today people would be calling it friendslop
scroll up and down to make them jump!!
If you were able to upload clips on the Internet of your friends eating absolute dirt, I think it would be.
Then again, would they be able to see the clips? The meteor shower would probably cause a lot of internet connection issues, realistically speaking.
Give my story a read, please.

the question definitely could've been phrased better but it's popularity would probably come from controversy (property destruction etc) & whatever clips people would be able to upload in time (keeping in mind that the SBurb beta was already out for a few days at the start of homestuck)
honestly "is SBurb friendslop?" is a MUCH better question to ask
beware the warning!
Sburb would def be considered friendslop, but its my friendslop..
i like tegbruh - user tegbruh
i mean with how the game is similar to like roller coaster tycoon or anything like that
yeah it would be popular
I AM A BIG FAN OF SBURB AND I THINK THIS IS A GREAT IDEA, THANK YOU
with love, THE BRO
not sure... but I do know I would find it entertaining to watch streamers try to play it,
then to have other streamers absolutely destroy their houses, and then lose everything to the meteors-
I feel like a lot of friendships would be lost over gained-
I think overall it would need to be a game you can restart, because absolutely everyone would be horrible the first time playing and doom their whole world-
aw yeah, awesome signature
straight up it does not depend on any sort of internal logic or lack thereof but someone would have to be telling your story to determine its rules. if they want sburb to be successful they write it as successful. if they don't then they don't. homestuck has strong themes of reproductive dysfunction so obviously the reproduction game was going to be dysfunctional. if you're writing something different then it'll be different duh. so basically it only works if a streamer gets their hands on it
yahoo! yippee! wahoo!
to take it more seriously than i have to:
i moreso wonder about the ramifications of a game that, when played, sends a tactical meteor directly to your address. i feel like there would be a huge biblical panic over this. it’s quite literally doomsday, everyone on the ground loses contact with those who enter, even those who don’t play get lost in collateral. people would probably try to play en masse to join the rapture if it were spun right.
or they would assume that anyone who played actually got crushed by a meteor rather than transported away right in time if nobody sees that happen, which would probably still cause a mass fanatical uprising. in that case the game would probably be banned instantly, everyone would know a guy who pirated it and got flattened. regardless the world as we know it permanently changes.
alternative answer if it were genuinely a video game that doesn’t cause the apocalypse: it would be friendslop

If it were to actually work like it does in the comic: Yes, the thing that would save your life as fast as possible would definitively get popular fast.
If it was a normal game: Moderately popular. Probably would become a darling between streamers quickly.
Would it be friendslop? Yes and no. The game is way too hard if not impossible if played solo, but that would make it popular with people who enjoy games with high difficulty.
SBURB at its core feels like a game that would end up lost media in a totally stupid way. but assuming that it works exactly how it does in the game, yeah! its basically a divine intervention. assuming the making a universe is rooted in some sort of pocket dimension or is only virtual, then it probably would be on the same level of creative exploration as minecraft, like challenge videos or something.
ex. "Can you beat SBURB WITHOUT the Alchemiter?"
"Is SBURB possible to beat without collecting 0 GRIST?"
Remember that it could theoretically have all of the Condesce's advertising budget behind it, at least in Earth B. Jake's company on Earth A is still formidable financially. I think that, due to this, it would have success at least through the Beta launch. what would happen if it made it to full release is debatable, but the world would end so it doesn't really matter.
This is some straight up delirious biznasty, Dawg!!
