At least a few times I remember seeing, in response to anything critical of Gio, things along the lines of:
"Well, this is exactly what Gio said would happen. Hussie and his goons spreading/capitalizing on rumours to delegitimize him."
Everything becomes part of a conspiracy against the ones who Really Know.
