Personally I think a lot of the jokes just won't work because you can't experience them as a flash animation lol, but from the trailer it seems like they're speedrunning a lot of the story because this is a very big comic so they have to introduce the most popular characters right off the bat. Because it's a story told through chatlogs as well where the characters goof off most of the time, they can get pretty creative with the way the characters interact with each other.

I specifically liked this part of the trailer lol like Dave is literally popping out of the screen to turn John's head. I think they'll do more of this so it's obvious the characters are interacting via text.
