The more I learn about the history of Hussie vs Gio, the more amazed I am Hussie didn't drop the hammer on him years ago. About the only reason I can think of for him NOT issuing a takedown notice (never mind trying to cut a deal!) is that it would discourage other people from hosting a Homestuck mirror, and given the botched and unfinished Viz site restoration, that would have been a problem. If you decide to assert your copyright against someone, it's legally maaaaaaybe a little tricky to say "I won't assert them against these other people, on the basis that they don't hate my guts and have never destroyed one of my projects by orchestrating a hate campaign against my staff." Even if in common sense terms, that's a wholely reasonable distinction to make.
