I'm genuinely confused. I feel like I reiterated multiple times that I'm fine with people interpreting the characters however they like. I'm... criticising Homestuck, the webcomic, on the basis of how it was written.
I suspect my post was reported, because suddenly there's two moderators in here. I also suspect they barely read the reported posts, looking for phrasing that looks vaguely problematic (like "devil's advocate" and "straight blonde hair") given how nonspecific my warning was. But my actual argument is that Hussie was a sheltered trust fund baby who wasn't very good at representation.
I'd love to use the American sitcom Friends as an example again. I'm sure there's someone out there who interprets Chandler and Joey as gay for eachother. Goodie! People should be allowed to do that. Their interpretation, however, doesn't alleviate the actual writers of Friends for their poor representation of gay people.
